    Affordable GARDEN tractor

Trouble with a "zero turn" is that mowing the grass is ALL it can do!

    Affordable GARDEN tractor

When you trust the "garden tractor" companies, with brands that have good history and well-known, THAT's where we all screw up for not doing enough background checks on their expensive products. However, this was before the Internet was even born.. <sigh>

    Affordable GARDEN tractor

After the FOURTH "garden tractor" in total lasted less than 10 years, I decided that enough was enough of that money pit. I decided to get a real tractor, so I did. Wound up with a BX2660, mostly for cutting the grass! There were other tasks that the little tractor was needed for as it turned...

BX2660 no power to dash, engine can be jump started.

BX2660 has thrown a weird fit. Dash doesn't light up (except engine hours). Thought it might be the ignition switch, replaced it, no change. :( Used jumper cables from battery to starter, engine will crank and run if you hold the "start" while cranking. Hard to shut off though (very weird.)...

    electrical gremlins -- again

2009 BX 2660. The gremlins are back. <sigh> Battery tests fine, Just last fall (2024) I had to replace a starter gear and now the 2660 is not wanting to allow any current from the switch to anything past the switch. Grrr. Guess I'll have to remove all the bolt-on points and polish them all...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Ok, here's what happened. I noticed that the starter was not jumping out (engaging) every time. Bad sign, bad juju. Even though the battery tested fine at a battery shop, turns out it's voltage was fine but just no load carrying capacity (even though the shop's tester showed it was. <sigh>)...

    Another Battery!

Did it actually crank with the new battery? The battery in my BX2660 was new in 2009 and it is still going strong. However, the tractor is almost impossible to crank now due to corrosion. I've cleaned almost every contact point except two and at least it will try to start, where before I...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Got the shop manual. Sadly, it has VERY little about the electrical system beyond simple schematics. Also, very few test procedures until you get into the engine guts section and there it has a little bit. Kinda of a sorry "shop manual."

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Got the tools, mostly for doing the solar installation by buying the tools and materials as SS budget allows. <sigh> But no, I don't know Jack...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

At least I know when to ask questions. Sometimes I even ask the right questions. :) Yes, I know 2/0 3/0 will carry the load. I was just wondering, though, if the huge amperage ONLY occurs during cranking, as even 14 ga can handle a few hundred amps for a few seconds. 2/0 costs about a...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Thanks for that, Alex. Good guidance. If I replace the battery cables, I have some 14 gauge flexible copper silicone-coated wire, Will they carry the current? and I should have some even larger around here somewhere (for solar system I'm slowly building.) Will the 14 be heavy enough? It is...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

I buy that, but I still don't know where the cables from the battery attach to anything. Is the starter (for example) on the front of the engine, down low, on the sice the bucket lever is on? So where do the positive and negative cables go once they leave the battery?

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Follow up #2: I reamed the battery posts on the starter and ?? cables and they were all shiny However, I still am getting sluggish starter motion even when jumping it with the truck or with the 200 amp charger/jump start unit. Makes me think another end of the battery cables are also...

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

Follow-up: When I went to get a new battery today, the shop tested my battery. The guy looked at me and, not saying a word, picked up one of his handy tools and removed the corrosion from both posts. Did a load test and the battery is fine. Thanks, all, for your help.

    BX2660 won't start, probably electrical?

It started fine the three times I tried it after the filters were replaced. I will look for that extra fuse when the heat dies down. It is SO hot and humid here. Temps with humidity factor is 105-108F here ( Huntsville, AL.)
