Your machine does not have an egr nor an egr cooler. There is an overflow tube from the coolant reservoir that will occasionally weep coolant when you are working it hard. That may be what you're smelling. A blown head gasket would be pretty rare as these motors are not under alot of stress.

Pull your fuel bowl and have a look. Make sure you don't drop the o ring.

I know this is an old thread, but on mine it was the relay under the cluster fairing. I wrongly assumed it was a grounding problem because of the symptoms. Looking into it further I realized that this relay powers most, but not all of the instrument cluster + the lighting circuits. Mine was awol...

Buy a simple infrared gun and take measurements on the head. You do want the oil temperature up high enough to boil off any moisture.
