Well, the tractor has been fixed by the local dealership. The source of the problem was a bad coil. Yes, I had replaced the coil early in the process with this new coil:
The problem, as was explained by the mechanic, is that this is an alleged 6V coil which requires an "external resistor"...
One more question:
When the manual suggests "pulling the vacuum line to the distributor" to test the timing, I assume they mean this metal hose (indicated by orange rectangle in picture below), correct?
1965 Ford 3 cyl gasser. Problem began a few weeks ago. Runs well with load on drawbar (soil conditioner), but with any load on the PTO (hay rake, hay tedder, bush hog (60 inch), I lose power and the engine begins to burble and run very rough. RPMs drop and if I don't depress the clutch to...

Note two items:
1. The frame is not yet painted. Impossible to do during a Michigan winter when the tractor is being used regularly. I will peck away at it this summer.
2. This is Tisco's version of the old Ford "Empire" blue. To my...
Yesterday, I noticed the left rear rim of my 8N was stained with oil in a pattern which indicated (to me) that differential oil was leaking out of the hub area and has been for some time. I have enclosed two photos. One of the leak evidence and a second of the "hub". What is the source of this...
The base coat is still curing. It is a Tisco gloss industrial enamel.
While I wait, I wonder if it is advisable to wet sand it with 2000-3000 grit prior to the clear coat application?
In the past, I have used lacquer paints and have always done so. Your thoughts?
Ford 2000-3-cylinder
Once the sheet metal, tires and fenders are off how should I go about preparing the frame for painting? The tractor paint is intact but oxidized with lots of grease and dirt and very little rust. My interest is just in refreshing the paint at this time, not a "frame off"...
1964 Ford 2000-3 cylinder
Sheet metal has been base coated with Tisco's Industrial enamel in Empire blue. Two coats with a HVLP gun. I have new decals for the rear hood and wonder if it is most advisable to place them on top of the clear coat like a bumper sticker on a car or to place them on...

As above.
Tractor is used daily to pull a PTO-driven manure spreader. The tranny/diffy fluid was changed about 200-250 hours/2 years ago with Soundguy-approved TSC UTF. The UTF fluid is at the correct level at the dipstick on the diffy and appears to be without water in it. Tractor has been...
I am attempting to remove the rear hood to paint it and have every step completed except I am unable to remove the throttle control lever from it's connections. Here is the rear hood with the throttle control lever sticking up with it's right angle bend:
Next are two close ups of the bottom of...
After looking the tractor over, hiding in plain sight behind the seat was this 7-pin Pollak brand receptacle:
This should do. Now I just need to find a 7-pin female plug to wire the control panel to.
There are plenty of 7-pin adapters out there, just not the unwired plug.
I have just purchased a moisture tester (Agratronix BHT-2) for my hay operations this year. The unit contains two sensors mounted in the hay chamber of my baler and a powered control panel which will be mounted near the Operator's station of my John Deere 5065M.
I will have no trouble mounting...
Here is a picture of the weep hole from the old pump. Is this incriminating enough? Is the stain from the coolant typical or is this an indicator of the failed shaft seal?
