Kubota BX23S/ John Deere1025R
Width: 45.1"/ 47"
Length: 99.0"/ 134"
Weight: 1600 lbs/ 1556 lbs
Transmission: 2 spd/ 2 spd
3pt lift 24" behind:680 lbs/ 758 lbs

LA340S Loader/ 120R Loader
Lift bucket pins: 699lbs/803 lbs
Height: 71"/72"

The Kubota is shorter, and can lift less on both ends. 3pt capacity is 11% less, and loader is 13% less. So depending on your uses the JD could be worth 24% more. If space is a concern then the Kubota is better. Overall they are very similar. Tractor Time With Tim is bias towards green. He points out some good information, but through rose (or green) colored glasses.

Messicks did a video with a 1025R discussing axle weight ratings. He did it through orange colored glasses, but the somewhat scientific approach is colorblind.

I have not looked at this size of tractor so my buying insights are limited.

If I were buying today I’d probably look at other brands than Kubota or JD. I’ve owned a JD2025r for about 6 years now. I was surprised at the discounts JD offered when I bought mine. Those seemed to have mostly gone away. The good thing about the JD’s and Kubotas in this size is they are common used.

I bought my first tractor a JD 1025r in 2016. I love this tractor. It's done a lot for me and I have beat the hell out of it. Recently bought a 2038r, that I am trading my 1025r in for. ( Being delivered Friday I hope)

As someone who has spent the last 3 months driving tractors around here is my take. 1st, buy one that the operator station is comfortable. Spending 8 or 10 hours in a seat can get uncomfortable. 2 buy what you want now, it's better to buy once, cry once. 3) determine the use of the tractor and buy one that will meet these goals. 4). If your buying it to just mow grass, buy a zero turn. I destroyed my 54 inch deck in less than 4 years. But my yard eats mowers.

Personally, I like the subcompact Deere over Kubota . I don't like the small tires on the subcompacts anymore. I would look at a 2025r or a b2601. I almost bought a lx3520 recently, but the deck was flexing hard when my fat ass stepped on it. Besides that, I liked the machine. My wife has a bx18 something for her business. Fun to drive but a garbage performance tractor.

Why did I go with bigger this round? Simply because I wanted more lift for my pallet forks. I looked at a tym2515 and I actually liked it. But it was to big for my property. I liked the kiotis also, but the hydraulics were jerky. But I have been using a Deere for 8 years. Kubota hydraulics are the best, but their loaders kinda suck lift wise.

Good luck in whatever you get

I'll have to let you know in 10-20 years whether I think JD is worth the extra money.

I was happy with both of my Kubotas when they were new. Over time, they have had more maintenance issues than I had hoped. My BX finally needed a new engine a few years ago. It would have cost $8000, which is more than I could have sold it for - with a new engine.

I replaced it with a JD 1025R, and it has been fine. We'll see how it ages. 🤞

I'd probably go with one of the BX25 Kubotas. Nice little TLB with many options. They were made them from 2009 up until at least 2024 last I checked. That's an impressively long model run & they are known to be reliable.
The B26 is the same only more so.... but more expensive.
There are probably some new/low hr BX & B still out there at dealers.

In China, John Deere is more expensive and retains its value than Kubota
Only in a few areas is the speculation of second-hand agricultural machinery dealers that Kubota is more expensive than John Deere

You’re probably referring to the larger utility tractors. The JD compact and sub compact machines are a different situation. Kubota is the sales leader in the sub 100 hp category. And when you look at the compact JD machines, there are a lot of models with aluminum transmission cases and plastic fenders, compared to Kubota’s cast steel transmission cases and steel fenders. The utility class JDs are a different and more robust machine altogether.

I have a BX 2680, great tractor, bad seat. Had to buy a Grammer seat so I could get out of bed the next day after mowing. It's just not set up for long seat times.

In China, John Deere is more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, so his used cars retain their value better than Kubota 😁 :)
