brought tiller and mower deck up from storage, dubbing away checking bolts/etc on tiller and may use it tonight for first time this season. need to check garden area soil dryness before I do, no sense tilling mud.
I lied, did not care how muddy it would be. luckily it wasn't.
first tilling of year done :)
do have to keep eye on woods tiller gearbox side seal (35$ seal) as I MAY have seen some seepage. very little after almost hour of usage between my place and neighbors. I check fluid levels every few hours anyway.

I just got a seal from Messik's, less than $20 including shipping, hopefully it's the right one. Both my side drive and gear box are full of chocolate milk and I need to change the oil before I can use mine this year.

on woods RT48.30 part # 1032437 if I read parts diagram correctly, large seal 1 each side of gearbox itself. the non-output side (rt side of tractor) is one seeping.

ahh, you're talking about the seals on the gear box, I don't need those, at least not that I'm aware of.
It appears that to change the oil in the side drive I have to take the cover off because the engineers saw fit to not include a drain plug. Either that or I need to turn the tiller upside down to drain it and I have no way of doing that.

you are correct.
side plug is fill only.
but if stuff milky may have gasket leak there or water entering the top vent plug. iirc is teflon tape on that.

Went out today again but this time I managed to get some stuff done. It went from coat weather to short weather (+20 degrees) in 24 hours.

Took the tire chains off and put them away.

Took of the blower and parked in the the back yard so I don't forget to grease and paint it before I put out back.

Parked the FEL in my storage area.

Brought the Tiller up to the house and started working on it. Changed the oil in the gear box, there was some water, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Did the work to pull off the side drive cover, lots of water poured out of it. I'm now waiting for as much oil to drip off of the side drive and covers as possible before I put the cover back on and fill it up.

I am going to put silicone on the breather for the gear box before I store it, and I will try wrapping the side drive breather in teflon tape, thanks for suggestion Dave, I was looking at it and trying to figure out what to do with that. I was thinking of trying to find a bolt with the same threads to use for storage, but if teflon tape will work that will be a lot easier to find and deal with.

Tomorrow if all goes well I'll finish up the tiller, after I get the oil back in I need to tighten up the tine bolts and check the slip clutch. Not in a hurry to start tilling, I can't plant here until the first weekend in June, so not in a great hurry.

If the weather holds I still need to change the engine and hydro oil and get the mower deck ready.

the side bolt is not a breather, its just a fill point and plug, teflon tape it as planned.
prob not good idea to use silicone on vent, risk of plugging it. clean it teflon tape the threads.

brought my mmm deck up from storage yesterday, had serviced before store so initial service will be fast. do have to replace 2 broken studs on left drive over ramp/guard. 2 10mm bolts will work iirc.

possibly. but damn he needs to run that thing. hitting 3 yrs old and only 15 hours on it....
I dont understand why someone would buy a tractor and not use it.

Finished up the tiller side drive. Overall it wasn't as bad of a job as I thought it would be.
Changed the engine oil and filter.
Changed the hydro oil and both filters, this was more work than the tiller.
Change the front end oil.
Total hours on tractor 302.
Hours this year 82, double normal, I measure this between yearly engine oil changes.
Hours last winter 60, triple normal, let's hope we don't have another winter like this last one for another 20 years.
All I have left to do is to get the mower deck ready, but I'm going to put that off a long as possible. I'm hoping to not need to mow until I get the tilling done. I would rather not need to take the deck off to finish tilling, but I don't think that's going to happen. I doubt I can push the lawn another month and I want to do the last tilling on memorial day weekend.

mower deck ready to go and tested, will be prob 2 weeks or so before grass tall enough. compost pile stacked pretty good still need little more drying around area before I can pile it to where desired but won't be long and only prob 20 minutes of work left on it.
