Here's a reversal on the towing question: What do you folks with backhoes do, for towing a utility trailer while the backhoe is mounted? I have a few projects for which I'm contemplating buying a backhoe, which would be added to my 3033R.

Trouble is, I'll be moving dirt from one place to another, and my best tool for that job is my 2-ton 4x8 foot dump wagon. I usually use my tractor to tow and power the dump wagon, but with the hoe installed, I'm thinking that will be difficult or impossible.

There are various ways to add a hitch to the front of the tractor as long as you don't mind backing up while you are towing. You could use one pair of your loader hydraulics to dump the trailer.

Most states have gone 35 mph for the max speed of the SMV, and yes if visible while trailering it is supposed to covered if visible. A ticket could be issued.

Trailer is set up with live center valve, and normally hooked into Power Beyond loop. And while this can run in series with the backhoe, I'd have to extend the hoses to reach around it.

I do have a third function out to the end of the loader, and that could be used for dumping, but I'd have to ditch the valve on the trailer, or tee in downstream of it, to make that work.

I have a hitch that clamps onto the bucket, one of the heavier ones made, but I'd not trust it with a 4000 lb. trailer load of dirt on a hill.

If there's a means to attach a draw bar under the backhoe, I could connect the trailer there, and just keep the bucket raised up above the trailer. Otherwise, I think I'm stuck rigging something to the backhoe bucket, like @bcp's video.

You have just described the scenario in which keeping a running, 2nd tractor around is highly valuable. I wouldn't be trying to tow up to 2 tons when you already have a 1000-lb backhoe mounted. Buying a used mini-excavator to do your digging would be an even better plan, though. If you've ever run a 3 or 4 ton excavator, you'll probably be pretty dissapointed in the digging power on your 3033R, comparatively.

The backhoe for my machine came with a SMV sign mounted to the mast (presumably because the one on the tractor would have to be removed to mount the hoe). The one on the BH mast just has a "slip-on" bracket for tooless removal/replacement to get it out of the way when working, but to replace when needed for roading.

That bracket looks like the ones on my Kubotas. Both are mounted to the ROPS. Jon

When I need my BH and trailer somewhere, I hook my 4 wheeler to my BH bucket hook on my L3540HSTC. Then I come back with the 4 wheeler for the B7100 and the trailer.

It's easy to drive my trailer backwards in 5th gear, it's a CMI 4k dump, works great.

A long time ago, I posted about my B7100 and trailer (4" cylinder, 2' stroke), someone said it would take 5 minutes to dump. At just over idle (no difference if empty/loaded) it takes one minute up and one minute down.

Thanks, guys. I'll start another thread on the subject when I have a chance, rather than de-railing this one. Lots of good ideas here, though!

There are hooks with carabiner style spring loaded closed ends which will not unhook during momentary slack in the tie strap. I wish I could find some for reasonable prices. Or a carabiner honestly rated 2000 pounds or more.

I don't have a picture but many dirtbike friends use a rubber hose which fits over their hook end and the other end is loosely threaded through the strap end of the hook. Appears you have a double wire hook for which a hose might not fit over as well as the single wire hooks.
try Lodi-Metals for straps at decent prices. I also got a set from Rhino-USA on Amazon which have the spring clip, however the rubber cushions fell off the second time I used them.

5906 posts and you are yet still somehow unaware that you clearly need a second tractor?!?! Turn in your TBN card, sir! 🤪
