Streering wheel and shaft comes loose

Tc40 streering wheel comes loose if I pick up on it. Normally not an issue but is more of an issue of driving uphill. Any input is appreciated

Do you have the telescoping steering wheel?

And, regardless if you do or don't, does it come off, or just move up and down?

If you have the telescoping wheel, NH is known for the lock knob in center of steering wheel becoming rusted and inoperable. Mine is rusted tight. Possible rusted loose?

Not a telescoping shaft or adjustable shaft. It pulls out but goes back in with little issues just need to turn a little to find the notch

Take the plug (#4) off and tighten the nut (#7).

I doubt it's the wheel coming loose on the shaft. More likely the shaft is slipping up the column and coming free of the steering valve below. There's no breakdown on the steering column so bushings, washers, snap rings, ETC apparently aren't available separately. It's either a complete column or fix what you have.

While your in there drill a drain hole in the steering tube. Mine was filled with rusty water and crud. The steering valve seal is leaking but after cleaning the tube and seal on the valve the leak is at an accepted level of leak.
