My old John Deere backhoe may have puked its last meal. I was finishing up about an hours worth of work with it the other day and as I picked up the bucket and the outriggers to move it, it sprang a leak. It is not coming from any of the hoses I can see. I took the floor up and still cant find the leak. The oil sprayed everywhere and it is a main line, not a hose to a specific function because it leaks immediately when I start it and the pump primes. I continues to pour from under the pump area even after it is turned off. The fluid is draining out from the area of the transmission filter(as opposed to the hydraulic filter). I didn't want to take those two filter canisters off until I had an idea what was above them. I know there are two rubber connector hoses to the main lines above the hydraulic filter and i would have figured that is where the problem was but I don't think the fluid is coming from there. I don't want to keep throwing money at this thing. I am posting this in hopes one of you experts might have seen this before and might have an idea what is going on
The oil is running down from the area in the pictures...

In the first picture you can see the stream of fluid coming down just to the left of the yellow canister. In the second picture the oil is flowing down the right side of the picture where those pieces bolt together.

After doing some more research I found that it might be this ORing part #8 in the following diagram. Anyone ever tried to replace this?

Replacing mounting o-rings between pressure control valve & trans case should be fairly simple after draining hyd oil. O-ring part #s are shown in photo below.

Say, ain’t that the priority valve? Those are notorious for leaking.

This is a 410 but it might help ya out.

Yes, I believe that is my problem. Thanks a ton for posting the video. I got the replacement seals but am wondering if it is too much of a job for me to handle. Not much working from under there. Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my post!

Mihindra I’ve never did that job. But taking it a step at a time you can do it. It’s kinda fun and keep you looking ahead. I just think it rewarding doing something my own self

Looks like a simple job, just a messy, oily, dirty, uncomfortable, neck and ab testing job. Sorry, just installed a 10 speed Eaton into a Kenworth T800 that took three guys 11 hours to do. Shoulda been done with two guys by lunch time, but she refused to go home, so I'm a little bitter tonight.

If it is indeed o-ring #8 in the pick, it will be could be a challenge to reassemble. Use some grease from gun to hold it in place during install.

Yes, you are exactly right. It was bear to get everything off to get to the o-ring but it was just as difficult to try to get it back together without the O-Ring falling out. If not for the grease I don't think I could have ever gotten it back together.

It is all back together now and yes, it was a messy, oily, dirty, uncomfortable, neck and ab testing job. Not to mention the chigger bites all over my body from laying on the ground.

I had to leave my farm before I was able to add new fluid and test it out. That o-ring was blown out so unless there was another hose that burst at the same time or the new 0-ring didn't get seated properly during the mess of re assembly, it should be fixed.

I will know in a few days when I get back out there.

Attached are a few pics from the job. Definitely not an easy one man job.

As always, thanks to everyone that replied with help and moral supports. This is an awesome website full of helpful folks.

Alan
