John Deere e110 lawn tracto
Very new here and I’m wondering if I can get some help from the wise people that I’ve been reading here I have a John Deere E110 lawnmower tractor I changed the battery from 300 to 350 cold cranking amps change the starter change the solenoid and the ignition switch when I turn it on The positive cable going to the solenoid gets extremely hot. It’ll turn over only once it’s extremely clean and I’m a little bit at my wits end. I had read somewhere by increasing the amps if the cables are not rated then they would get hot. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Generally if a cable gets extremely hot it's either a loose connection or the wire is too small. If you've not changed the wire suspect a loose connection or corrosion. As far as the cold cranking amps, the current draw is determined by the circuit resistance, in this case the starter. The CCA means more power available in colder weather. Even if you had 1000 CCA the starter would still use the same amount of current. Check for a loose positive or negative cable somewhere.

Wires are tight clean. Factory wires. Zero corrosion. Appreciate reply Maybe just changing wire will help. Ok so keeping the battery though. What you said makes sense

Inspect the ends carefully. Sometimes there will be corrosion inside the connector itself. Immersed in a solution of baking soda and water the reaction will tell you if any acid has crept in there. If replacing wires, bigger never hurts but never go smaller.

Look for a ground wire or strap that goes from the engine to frame. Your tractor may or may not have one but If that has come loose or is corroded at connection points will cause high amp draw to the starter.

It sounds like your compression release is not working . Excessive valve lash , loose rocker or failed camshaft.

Wire does not get hot from bad connection. Only one end will get warm, the connection will get hot.

The whole wire will get hot if too much current is flowing through it. That means your battery is good. That means your starter is broken, engine hydro locked, or quite common on 17 HP B&S is the automatic compression release is broken.

If compression release then you should be able to turn the engine backwards about 1/2 to 3/4 turn then hit the starter and it will fire off. If that does the trick then bad news: case must be split to repair.
