    3rd function/remote ?

Here is how I attached mine. There are 2 bolts holding the cover plate onto the cross bar, so I got 2 longer ones. I used bulkhead fittings to mount the couplers to the plate. 1/4" steel, IIRC. Very similar to how Kubota did their factory 3rd function on these models.

    Advice on porch rails

No plasma, these are made from rods bent on a slip roller. Frame is 1.5" sq angle (1/8"). Here is a close-up of one before I brought it in for electropolishing, which cleans up all the discoloration from the welds, passivates the surface and makes everything shiny!

    Advice on porch rails

Well, the tile on my deck, having been through I think 3 Wisconsin winters now would disagree with you. I did my best to pitch the decks so water would not pool, used a very sturdy substrate of 2 layers of 3/4" treated ply and 3/8" backerboard, plus waterproofing. Of course the tile needs to...

    Youngblood Lumber, Minneapolis, MN

Welding table - just for fun

Thought I would throw this out there for giggles. Made this last summer by modifying a table I bought off a guy for $20. He was a one-man injection mold shop. Pretty rare in this day and age, but he decided to hang it up and retire finally as things were getting pretty thin and there wasn't...

IBC metal totes for storing/transporting firewood

I bought 16 of them and still need to get rid of the tanks... I did this because my wood stove is a Tulikivi (Finnish design) and they left out one key detail - the firebox can only take 12" wood. Impossible to stack, so I split and throw into these bins. Works great. I think I get somewhere...

    New tractor mods

I added a 3rd function to my new tractor. I did it before on my L3130, so I knew what needed to be done, but the new L5240 has a different setup for the hydraulics that made it a bit harder to do. That mostly just meant more expense in the hydraulic lines/fittings. Such is life. Here are...

It's a different system. You have a blower unit that is self-contained and usually runs off of regular 120V electric. It is a lot cheaper to buy a good turbine unit than it is to get a compressor big enough to supply true HVLP air quantities. Most HVLP run off compressors (except major...

    Dumb welding question

I haven't had the need to do this yet, but I see mention of a backing strip for some welds. I get the general point in that it helps stop blow out and holds everything together a bit better for a cleaner full penetration weld, but one thing is missing from every description I have seen of...

    Replace every 2 years?

So I just cracked 1000 hrs on the tractor and the light came on to do scheduled service. I'm going to get to most of it here in the next month pretty much when it's time to put it away for the winter. But in reading the manual there are a ton of things they tell you to replace every 2 years -...

    Quick connect size diagram?

I swear someone here recently posted a drawing that showed the actual size profiles for the various sizes of common quick connect fittings, but I can't find it (figures...). Anyone remember it and can point me to it? The quick connects I have on my new grapple appear to be the flat face skid...

    Quick connect type?

I am building my grapple system now. I got a Fasse valve kit (great people to work with) and have ordered the 48" Gator/Markham light duty grapple rake (with extra tines - seemed a wise move). The grapple should show up early next week, but I want to be ready for it as much as I can. I guess...

    LA723 fitting size?

I'm looking to add a grapple to my loader and need a diverter for my LA723 loader (Kubota L3130 HST tractor). I'm not sure what size the lines are as I am not familiar with hydraulic components and fitting sizes (plus I do not have the tractor on site with me to check this easily). Does anyone...

    Horse Tine Question

I'm rebuilding this for a friend, but I have no experience with these units. I marked the tines before pulling it all apart but all the markings (except one) washed off in the clean up process. Do I have the tines on correctly, or are they reversed? Thanks, Dave

(Re)starting to learn stick - which rod?

I picked up a Lincoln AC/DC tombstone for dirt cheap a few weeks back on CL. Now I finally have some scrap steel to start practicing with. I took a Tech college class about 12+ yrs ago that covered all kinds of welding from OA to Stick, MIG and even TIG and one shot at submerged arc (the...

Bigger hitch capacity or weight distributing hitch?

So after reading the recent thread on hitch capacity, I decided to look into mine more closely. I have the stock OEM receiver on my 2005 F250, and the sticker says 5000 lbs/500 tongue load carrying or 10,000lbs/1000 tongue weight distributing. Right now I am running a plain old ball in the...

Skidding winch - need bigger tractor?

So a friend of mine sent me his old skidding winch, a Farmi JL304 that is right about 30 yrs old. He used to use it on his Ford 9N for his firewood business when he was in high school and college. It had been kicked around a lot over the years and was in sad shape with the main post bent and...

    Stoopid parking brake question

Yeah, a noob... So I try to do "the right thing" and put the parking brake on at various times when i get off the tractor. I have a very steep hilly wooded area I am working in, so it makes sense to me at times to do this. Now last week I managed to forget to pop the brake off 2 times when I...

    Shop manuals?

New member, though I've lurked a bit here and there. Just picked up a used L3130 with 950 hrs on it. Good overall condition. And I'd like to keep it that way. I have the owners manuals for the tractor and loader, but that is all. For all my vehicles I like to get the OEM shop manuals so I...
