To the OP: you have WAAAAAAY too much time on your hands. I suggest you try cutting the same area as you do w your bush hog w a push lawn mower. After that, you won’t care what your “shredding device” is called..

That's a good point about keeping out debris in that area w the crusty grease... I wonder if zerk [plastic] caps would be a good thing? Something you could just push on/pull off while greasing. that would surely keep any XXXX from getting into the zerk.

Yes, you are really lucky it's under warranty. If you have water in your fuel injectors, that's a pretty intense job...as mentioned, I would definitely seek clarity on what is the real issue. when something like this happens, it may have been a rookie mechanic and they are doing cover-up...
