The flux wire I've been using is HF. It's good stuff. The slag just jumps off the weld if you let it cool down some. Makes a good weld easy too.

My chipper uses the PTO for hydraulics and the flywheel for the chipper part. The hydraulic pump is driven by a pully. It doesn't need a lot to drive the infeed sprocket. There's plenty of PTO pumps on the market. Determine how much flow you need and get one. They are not generally on cheap side.

I would not change the fluid until you fixed the hoses. You could be dumping valuable new (and expensive) oil on the ground. There's also the possibility of contaminating the new oil with crud from and around the hoses. Cleanliness and hydraulics go hand in hand. If you're making your own hoses...

Both housings are going to have iron dust/chips made up of gears and bearings. Just filling them up with oil is not enough to fix the damage. I wouldn't settle for anything less than complete new assemblies or a new tractor.
