    I think for a lot of people on this forum a 100 hours a year is more normal. 500 a year is enough I wouldn’t worry about it. Any modern name brand fluid is going to be decent but the synthetic ones are better.

    The specs on Stihl’s website always used to say 50cc, that doesn’t appear to be the case now. Stihl says a 261 will pull a 20” bar. I have an 18 on mine and I think a 20 would be fine.

    Yes the B sized is closer in size to a JD1025r. The tires are still small on a 1025r. A 1025r is kind of in between a Kubota BX and a small B.

    I’ll add I owned a BX2350 for 10 years, great tractor. The biggest difference that makes a difference between the JD and the Kubota is end loader bucket size. The JD isn’t twice as big but the heaped load is going on twice as much. That might or might not be important to you.

    I think if you do research, you’ll find the amount of sodium it adds is minimal. The amount depends on the hardness but an example is a gallon of softened water has the same amount as half a cup of tomato juice.

    Kind of hard to describe but I double nutted my Pats so I can leave them loose and they still swivel some. I’ve had mine for several years and like them. One thing nice about JD and Pats is JD’s turnbuckles push the arms out, which I think is opposite of Kubota so no need for the spacer bar.

    John Deere had their “special” hydraulic fluid, either Hy-Gard or low viscosity Hy-Gard. There’s all sorts of fluids that say they meet Kubotas and JD’s specs but I’ve always just spent the extra money and bought the real thing.

    I’d guess it up the boost at lower rpm’s and bumps up the fuel. I seriously doubt it will use less fuel for you, or at least not enough difference you would notice. It might also alter injection timing.

    I think mine calls for 200 hour changes but it’s a hydrostat. Mine also looked really clean on the dipstick but when I drained it there was some wear particles in it and the fluid looked like it needed changed.

    I have a Yardmax exactly like @kenmbz shows above. One thing I like is the beam is open where the wedge runs. This lets any chips and junks of bark clean off easy. Some I see have rails that the wedge runs on that look like they wouldn’t that crap to fall. I’m not sure if that’s an issue or not.

    I’m going to jump on board and say your fuel mileage shoukd be way down the list of things to worry about. I’d worry more about the condition of the truck body, engine, transmission, dump body and hydraulics. If you put a lot of miles on it I’d try and find a diesel.

    Like the others, I’m glad it wasn’t worse. You shouldn’t have to pay your insurance company to look at your tractor. You might want to get the dealer to go over it but I’d think due to the fire your insurance would pay for it. Stay safe!

    I wouldn’t think that small amount would hurt anything. It’s possible everything you did cleaned things out and broke some crap loose but I’d think the filter would have caught it.

    It’s actually an old dog kennel. It had a small little house on it, maybe 50 sq. ft. and the rest were just runs. It probably hasn’t been used as a kennel for 40 years. The ground hogs have undermined parts of it making it partly collapse. I got this one yesterday.

    It seems like all three of the tractors are similar looking at the specs. The Branson is much newer but they have a lesser reputation than Kubota and JD. I’d still take the newer tractor though.

    A load tester is 30 bucks and you don’t have to take the battery out. It’s crazy to replace a starter, battery cables etc when it is the battery the entire time. This is even more true since the battery was dead not long ago.

    I’m using the correct file, here is a picture of a new chain on the tag on the files I bought. A couple of pictures of teeth. I compared to my new chain. I feel the first picture I’m close on the sharpening, the second one the tooth seems straight up and down with no curve.

    I split some more wood today. I have a ballast box on the back of my tractor that has a receiver in it but I can’t see to get close to my splitter. I use a hitch setup on my forks to move it. I don’t even latch the ball, I only move it about a 100 feet from where I store it to where I split.

    It’s not just the width but the diameter. I have a cheap plastic one and it’s a little too small. Kind of guessing as I looked at a few on line but mine is probably 36” wide by a diameter of 18”. You probably want a bigger one.
