    Beekeeping

Worker bees consist of different types really. Nurse bees don't leave the hive, they will stay with the brood on those frames. You will lose foragers, but if you provide resources, they don't need foragers for a while. We did a split last year that consisted of a new queen, about two handfuls...

What have you done to your Branson today?

Yeah, as soon as the top begins to dry, it's perfect. Tills nicely, with no dust. Hoping to plant tomorrow
  138. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

Also built some new swarm trap mounts using French cleats
  139. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

Tilled so that we can plant an acre of phacelia this week.
  140. CloverKnollFarms

What have you done to your Branson today?

Tilled an acre in an hour.

    Zero turn fatality

This is why mine is down... Unless I go cut a lot of branches

    5520ch falls into 4WD

My 4wd lever has always had very positive detents, and my tractor has always been incredibly clean. But my seat comes nowhere near the lever, so maybe yours is different... I thought the 5520 and 4820 were the same chassis

EV owners of today and tomorrow

My Branson sat since August. We had plenty of 0F days, or below 0... After 6 months, it jumped right to life. Actually both mowers did too!
  144. CloverKnollFarms

What did you buy this week?

    20 pounds of phacelia seed

    Changing Wildlife Patterns

We build homes, drive cars, send off bags of trash... Yep, the environment suffers for just existing
  146. CloverKnollFarms

    Power steering leaking

Is that a weld and sealant all over the area too? It appears some trauma has happened there. The poppit is dented too, which would likely affect its ability to seal
  147. CloverKnollFarms

    Changing Wildlife Patterns

We have a lot of deer, not uncommon to see 10 in the back yard during the afternoon hours. We routinely find shed antlers in the lawn. Lots of frogs, bats, snakes and the like. We have fox, coyote, wild turkey and bald eagles on the property too... Some days it's like living in a Disney...
  148. CloverKnollFarms

    Power steering leaking

It looks damaged, so, maybe replace it

    Rant on shipping

I did just receive my motocross boots that were shipped in January... They spent all but two days of that in the Indianapolis facility. I still have a graphics kit from February 6th there. I discovered that if I include some ORMD in each order, it ships via UPS, and it's more reliable 😂

Yeah, after two decades of flying and training pilots, I'm very much in tune with repeatability and SOP😂
  152. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

I'm buying enough wax foundation to prime 450 more frames. I used to build maybe 3 hives per year, and maybe 60 frames per year. Now I'm looking at 12-18 hives per year and about 400 frames per year 😂
  153. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

Yessir, they are about 16” in length. So the 6” flat is laid down on the saw. The dado bade .25” depth of cut. I have a mark on my fence so that I know where to stop the taper. I don’t have a photo sadly.

    Kioti not shipping tractors?

I mean, I'd probably go buy from another dealer with stock. Our Kioti lots are full.
  155. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

I leave a couple thin strips on each side, to stabilize the board as I carve out the rest of it. I also run the board through a planer first, to make sure they are completely flat on each side, before I start, and exactly the same thickness
  156. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

2x6, I lay on its side, and taper with a 1” wide dado blade on a table saw. Then rip into 3/8” bars

    Beekeeping

Oh yeah, we are like 2 miles from Lieber. Small world.

    Beekeeping

About 200 pieces cut, 200 more to go...

    Beekeeping

I'm a retired pilot, so I finally have time to go all in on my beekeeping hobby. Planting an acre of phacelia next week for them

    Beekeeping

Still have to knock out another 100 frames 😬 This will make 300 I've built this winter alone
  163. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

Need to paint the new traps, and repaint a couple older ones, but I'll have 11 traps up this spring... Usually I have 4-5 hung. Hoping for a good year. I have (3) empty hives in the barn and parts cut for (5) more. (6) With overwintered colonies out in the field.
  164. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

This is actually a very old design, dating back to the mid 1800’s in France. Do you still keep bees after all these years?
  165. CloverKnollFarms

    Beekeeping

More progress. Should go into the season with 8 traps.

    Beekeeping

I have a neighbor about a mile down the road who used to maintain 10 hives at his place. I drove by today and they are all gone. Just stacks of cinder blocks where they used to be. 🤔

Cutting and planing panels for (4) more swarm traps, for myself. All customer work is stopped until I get myself ready for swarm season in 4 weeks!

2023 5520C - PSA - Mice Love the New Wiring

Wow, I'm so sickened to see this. My 4820 lives indoors, but I did have a mouse make it inside once... Luckily the little **** was more interested in my wool insulated pillows for my hives. What a mess!
  178. CloverKnollFarms

What did you buy this week?

Coolant temp sensor for the MX bike

My son did too. Sadly the Indy USPS is in the news due to their shortcomings. I'm not the only one
  181. CloverKnollFarms

    Rant on shipping

I don't care about communicating, I do care about physical parts to get jobs done. Everyone is using USPS, and I don't know if I'll have the part in three days, or 6 weeks... No wonder people can't get equipment repaired. The parts are stuck in shipping
  182. CloverKnollFarms

    Rant on shipping

Today I have three packages in limbo. The longest lost, is 20 days since last scan in Indianapolis. USPS doesn’t want to settle a claim, because they know it’s there, somewhere… meanwhile I can’t close up a motor without a couple seals
  183. CloverKnollFarms

    Who rides motorcycles?

Got the new Hinson clutch pack installed. Every bolt that comes off, gets polished before it goes back on. Waiting on USPS to find my gasket and oil seals for the alternator side, so I can button that up.
  184. CloverKnollFarms

    Rant on shipping

Yah, I'm going on no scan for 16 days
  185. CloverKnollFarms

    Rant on shipping

I now currently have three packages lost at the same time, in USPS purgatory. It’s so bad, news stations in Indiana have been contacting politicians about why their constituents are waiting 30+ days for packages.

Sadly nobody knows where mine end up. And I wait weeks, or longer, to get refunds from the sellers
  188. CloverKnollFarms

    Rant on shipping

Another package of motorcycle parts was supposed to arrive today. What do ya know? It last scanned two days ago, and has not been seen since. It’s like once it arrives at the distribution center, things disappear. 50% of my USPS deliveries lately, never show up. 😒
  189. CloverKnollFarms

    Wheel ruts at barn entrance

I don't know. I've had gravel drives for a long time, and not rutted them. It probably depends on whether you do it right. Simply throwing down gravel wouldnt work... But excavated it, throw down some coarse material and throw 38s on top. We have really wet clay here, and it holds up...
  190. CloverKnollFarms

How to plant/cover clover without a seeder?

Frost seeding only works if the seed makes soil contact, and you will have freeze/thaw cycles. Without that, it's just throwing seed on the ground
  191. CloverKnollFarms

How to plant/cover clover without a seeder?

I just frost seeded tall fescue last week. It's already buried.

And, USPS has yet to find/deliver a package that last scanned on February 6th. Still working on that refund from the vendor

FedEx left a $350 box of motorcycle parts at the end of our road yesterday. 1/4 mile from our house. Luckily a neighbor witnessed it and brought the package in and called us.
