I have a TMG 72 inch tiller I bought used...I haven't operated it yet so I hope it's OK...I have received a manual from TMG so hopefully it has the information I need...I want to change the oil in the gear drive end and the gear drive housing...not sure how much oil to fill either....comments appreciated....on operating a tiller, is it better to till wetter or drier...I have some areas that are clayey but most sandy loam....any feedback appreciated. I hate to act like a novice (which I am on a tiller) but I'm teachable to experience...any operating comments appreciated. Thanks.

It's better to till when it's not wet, or dry.

Our land is clay loam. When the surface first begins to dry, it's perfect. You'll likely have to test your ground to get a feel for it

If this tiller has a slip clutch I'll advise to loosen slip clutch springs until clutch slips then readjust SC springs. I agree till when soil is moist but very wet.

My 60" has a dipstick fill to line. Caroni type, its so faded can't tell anymore. I bought it used about 13-14 yrs ago, put new blades on it and it does what I need even today.

I till when I need to, as long as its not so wet I would possibly get stuck.

My spring tilling pattern is to till it once in lowest speed then in about a week till it again and maybe even a third time all about a week apart. That usually makes a huge dent in weed control.

With the subsequent tillings I will increase the speeds if I am in a hurry. First one I always run at lowest gear and 2500 rpm.

Happy tilling!
