    Why do tire chains work?

They decrease the contact area, therefore increasing the point load applied to the ice/snow surface. Increased point load encourages breaking the smooth surface condition creating a bite (increased static friction).

    Inboard boat motor question??

    another hiccup to going solar?

Just how bad is airline service

Just how bad is airline service

I generally have 1 rough flight per year, generally weather related. I don’t fly much for work anymore so only 10 or so round trips per year. Mostly American, 2nd being Southwest. TSA PreCheck is most definitely worth it. Helps to understand what you are due as a customer for a late or...

    another hiccup to going solar?

Agree. I’m paying for transformers, poles, lines, etc… separately. I’m only credited for the same wholesale electric price my coop would otherwise be paying Brazos Electric to purchase the power. The wholesale electric price is the majority of the cost on the bill. I pay $36/month flat (up...

    another hiccup to going solar?

Today, would you buy an EV vehicle.

Depends how you look at it I suppose. My installation is subsidized by a tax credit on my own personal taxes. It is a reduction in the exorbitant amount of federal tax I pay for 1 year. Frankly, I don’t agree with many of our federal gov’s expenditures. Maybe, my solar tax credit is shorting...

Uhh, grid tied solar is pretty common. What my system is. I have a bi-directional meter from my Coop Utility. My 15KW solar system/inverter pushes up to 62.5A @ 240V into my distribution system. It is basically 1st source, any excess and my meter spins backwards, if my demand is higher the...

    $100,000 to replace a $28,000 tree they didn't own but sold for $2,000 ???

I’ve moved large trees, bought large trees, had to secure bonds on large trees near areas of heavy construction. I’ve even raised large trees to meet new grades (terrible slow process and a 20yr bond on that one I believe) I maintain $100k is a steal. ‘Timber’ value isn’t even a consideration...

    Ordered a 2022 Ram 2500

Plenty (most?) of Class 6-8 without leaf springs. Coil rear trucks do ride better, they also come with lower weight ratings than the leaf spring equipped trucks (at least in Ram). But, if your loads don’t dictate max GCWR, coils are the more comfortable way to go. My 22’ SRW 3500 is leaf...

Regarding pollution associated with operation of ICE vs EV. Argument earlier about ‘oil’ burned for ICE and electricity being the same. For a given unit of power used/consumed, which do you expect is least polluting? IE. exhaust from an ICE or ‘exhaust’ from a coal, NG, nuclear plant for the...
