    Heat a basement?

There is a dehumidifier down there. It ran NONSTOP before the foundation drain was fixed, and the place was always damp. Now, it keeps it around 40% and even shuts off when not needed.

    Heat a basement?

There is 1" pink foam board on the outside of the cinder block first floor walls. I had that added when they dug down and installed/replaced the plugged/bad foundation drain system. The reason for my inquiry really is only if it helps the heated living area feel any warmer, is more effiecent...

The furnace is a brand new Trane high efficiency with the PVC pipes for combustion air inlet and exhaust outlet. The cold air returns are in the living room and first floor bedroom. What is a daylight basement? I have one window in a window well...

    Heat a basement?

I grew up in a house with a basement, near Chicago. Fast forward 50 years, after living in houses with NO basement (crawl space - then on a slab for 30 years) I have now moved to a 100 year old farm house in rural Iowa. Winter is cold in both locales. This house has a basement, used only for...

    Beet Juice Tire Ballast

I had my new tires filled with Rim Guard. After being quoted $4/gallon at a tractor dealer, I found an industrial tire shop (like trucks and skid loaders) for half the price. I brought the (self) mounted tires there (an hour away) and went back the next day to pick 'em up. No issues at all, so...

    Q's on replacing MF230

Welcome to the forum. You're gonna be spending $10k+ for a decent used modern(ish) 4x4. Maybe just get a smaller bucket, or chain up the rears on the tractor you've got now?

what to do with a pile of asphalt

IMHO I'd suggest you to "man-up" and pay now to get rid of it. That contractor you know should know of a way/place to have it recycled. The same place where the chewed up road surface stuff goes to get re-used. Once it's gone, you (and/or) your estate will not ever have to worry about it...

    Price to Fill Tires

Call an Industrial Tire dealer, as in fork lifts, etc. I had mine filled by one, in the Chicago area at 1/4 the price the local tractor dealer(s) wanted. Call Rim Guard for contacts in your area.

    Dealer communication

I have (thankfully) had a different experience. I've bought two things (a tractor and a zero turn mower) from two different (both green) dealers. One in Wisconsin, the other local to me here in Iowa. Both salesmen were awesome and responsive (texts and phone calls). A third (also green)...

    What works against rodents

What works better than peanut butter on the snap traps?? The little buggers here just lick it off without tripping the trap. I catch a few when the traps are new, but then the catch rate drops. If the (copper?) plating on the wire gets rusty, I think they tend to stick and not fire. Good...

    PTO for beginners

Are you considering a new, or antique tractor? Most new(ish) tractors all have live PTO, and most also have a mid-PTO. Live/Independent PTO is awesome - insist on that (I may have the names mixed up - but you do not want to have one that requires the trans to be in gear and clutch out - to...

    Smoothing a bumpy yard?

Got another load of dirt delivered yesterday. It's good black "pasture dirt", from someone putting in a pond. There is no local "pulverized" option, but it's pretty good with relativly small amount of clods. The other load had a rock that was the size of a typewriter(!)... I've been using...

    Smoothing a bumpy yard?

The ground is real hard, but may be an option after a good rain. The SIL has one I can borrow. I used up most of my 20 yard dirt pile yesterday, using the backwards rake method to smooth it out. 20 yards disapeared pretty quick. Need another load.

    Smoothing a bumpy yard?

I live on an acreage, and need to smooth out a real bumpy yard (about 2 acres total), in preparation of upgrading to a zero turn mower. Tools I have: compact tractor w/loader, box blade, landscape rake, chain link fence drag, hand tools, large pile of dirt (to fill in the low spots). My...

    Need some advice

IMHO, you should not get involved at all. A leach field inspection is mandatory. Let your neighbor haul them into court, if needed. If that is not gonna happen, a landscape rake (best used backwards) would be my chosen weapon - if your ground is not rock hard by then. A small dozer would...

Woods RD990X Finishing Mower Blade Removal

    Pull-Back collar on PTO shaft

27.9 here this morning. We have not got the 40 - 50 mph winds they predicted, yet anyway... I don't like sitting in deer stands when it's that windy, and they generally don't move much then too, but I may push myself out for an afternoon hunt. Last day of bow season in Indiana today.

    Tires  New 855 Rear Tires

I just bought a 1997 Model 855, with a 420 loader, with 2000 hours on Black Friday. It runs fine, and everything works (except a couple lights). It needs a new/recover seat. It will also need rear tires soon. They are (loaded) turf tires and the sizes don't match all the specs I've seen...
