The pads are available at any auto parts store and it is highly unlikely you will need any other part. I'm glad you are happy with the drum brakes, but I was not so I changed them. When I'm towing a trailer that weighs 22,000 pounds I want the best brakes I can get. There is a reason modern...

I have converted two trailers and consider the cost well worth it. My PJ 32' hydraulic dovetail trailer came from the factory with electric/hydraulic disc brakes and I would not buy any new trailer without them. 1981 ford 1700, hard to start

I suspect a fuel problem since it runs normally after the first start. The most likely problem is something is allowing air into the fuel system which in turn requires you to "bleed" the system by continually cranking the engine. A quick diagnostic trick would be to spray oil based (from the...

    Cost of pallet forks

I'll second that! I very rarely put my bucket on, but I use my pallet forks constantly. You can add a grapple to a set of pallet forks as well to really increase their utility. My first Kubota had pin on bucket/pallet forks and they were a PIA. Get the quick attach.

Yeah that one is on me! We lost power Tuesday morning along with internet and cell service. The stand by generator kicked on and ran for about 22 hours and then died due to an overspeed condition. So, no water or lights, but the wood stove kept the house at a reasonable temp, I fetched water...

    1-3” Snow in PA/DE

When I was a kid in MA with my own plow route my rule was I started at 4" and if it snowed more than 24 hours straight it was considered two storms. Those tight Yankees would never want it done if it wasn't at least that much.

As a fellow New England expatriate I agree completely. Thanks! As is very typical for our area the forecasters are now upping the amount from 3 to 6 to 6 to 12 and they are already closing the schools. The most likely outcome will be no snow and the forecasters telling everyone how hard it is to forecast the weather in this area.

3rd function use in 2 places

My $.02 is that a 3rd function is not an ideal solution for a grapple. It is a fallacy to believe that an inspector is going to catch every mistake. The GC has to be willing to want to do it right and hold their subs to that standard. Contemplating a box blade

I'd respectfully disagree with that. The back can be handy for pushing dirt back into a swale from a pile you create with the box. I also use the back to move snow so I am working while backing up to take my next pass in a large area like a cul-de-sac.

I already have a 1/32 inch flow reducer in the line and I'm running 1/4 inch lines. Going to a 1 1/2 inch cylinder more than doubles the surface area the fluid acts on so it will slow it down. Right now I'm too cheap to change it, but if it becomes a real issue I'll swap it out.

I use the tank I have in the back of the truck that I use to fill the truck when we tow our fifth wheel. Love the video of the lady filling the plastic bag with gasoline. I once ran a call where the wife filled her washing machine with gasoline to wash her husband's greasy clothes. Since I was...

    Dump trailer prices

As in all transactions if the buyer is willing to pay the asking price the seller is perfectly willing to take it. Does "irrational exuberance" ring a bell?

Need advice on a larger chainsaw for an older guy.

If you are concerned about the physical effort it takes to cut wood keeping a sharp chain on is key. I ran across a real deal on e-bay for a box full of 16" Stihl semi-chisel chains a while back so I stopped doing more than a quick file before I changed to a new chain in the interest of saving...

    Dump trailer prices

Like all products made with steel trailers have shot up in price. If you are not aware of it the price from the mill for steel has risen at least three fold in the past year. I'm sure it will come back down as supply increases and demand tapers from customers not being willing to buy at today's...

    Man I need front fenders

Try searching for boat trailer fenders. They come in a variety of sizes and materials and would be pretty easy to modify. I'm not sure they come in a large enough size for the big tractors, but they will fit almost any CUT. Now you have me thinking of yet one more project to do.

Well today I learned 5 things about post hole augers

I remove the auger bit and place the output shaft into a section of pvc pipe that I buried in the ground. The arms that hook into the 3ph support it and I welded a couple of small tabs to the top of the arm to hold the pto shaft up off of the ground. It's still a PIA to hook/unhook, but it is...

Kubota L4610 electrical problem (need help please)

Lots of worthy advice here and intermittent electric issues will get you talking to yourself pretty quickly. I'd stop and look at the overall problem as the first troubleshooting step. Given the age of the tractor I would suspect some corrosion as the most likely suspect and since the problem...

Need advice on a larger chainsaw for an older guy.

I was given an almost new MS 390 (long story) that I am running with a full chisel chain on a 20 inch bar and I love it. It is heavy, but I use it for bucking more than anything else and the weight is actually helpful since it carries the saw through the log. We do anywhere from 5 to 15 cords of...

    Oil & Fuel Fuel cans

Like most regulations the ones for which containers are legal to be filled with flammable/combustible liquids come from folks who do not have any common sense and use things like glass gallon jugs to carry gasoline. Now that almost all fuel stations do not have pump attendants I'm sure we will...

Buying Advice Is it possible to go too big?

If I were in your situation I would first get to know the neighbors and find out what they use. I assume you are in eastern NC based on the land description, so there should be several folks who farm in the area. Talk to the local extension agent and ask for advice. Visit the local feed/farm...

    Newbie looking for critique

There are a couple of "self tests" that you can do to evaluate how you are doing. The easiest is to just try to break the weld to see how it comes apart. Do a butt weld on a piece of 1/8" thick sheet a couple of inches long then put it in a vise and work it until it fractures. If the metal fails...

    Regret a cab tractor?

Had three open station machines and when I was a younger man I didn't mind dressing like Ralphie in Xmas Story, but now old age and wisdom have taken ahold and I'm very glad I went to a cab machine. And if you finance through Kubota their insurance will cover any lack of concentration moments...

    New Stihl?

It's a long story, but a neighbor gave me a basically new MS390. It's heavy, but I equipped it with a full chisel chain and 20 inch bar and for doing large stuff it is a great saw.

    New Stihl?

I love Stihl saws....but My experience is that the newer saws just do not compare to the older stuff. I ran an 026 for 20 plus years cutting anywhere from 3 to 6 cords of hardwood a year before I just plain wore the saw out. I replaced it with an MS290 which lost enough compression that it would...

Adding an Adjustable 4 Way Wedge

Thanks; I just finished it up, so the only wood I have split with it is what I used to try it out. But, since we do not buck up our logs until we are ready to split them my guess is that we will not need to re-set the height too frequently since the pieces we feed to it should be of similar size.

Adding an Adjustable 4 Way Wedge

I recently added a hydraulically adjustable 4 way wedge to my home built wood splitter. I bought the splitter many years ago for around $200.00 and over the years I have replaced everything but the I beam, basic chassis, and the oil tank. I added a 13 HP HF engine, high flow pump, auto return...

    Firewood processor with winch

A friend and I usually find trees within a short distance from our houses so we can drive the tractor to them. We than buck them into logs which we load onto a dump trailer to get them to our wood yard. When the weather turns cold we buck and split them using my home built wood splitter which...

    Goats ate the invasives

I don't know if they still use them, but the local Army base used goats to keep the grass down in the munitions storage area and at the fuel dump. They don't produce ignition sources as fuel fired equipment can.

Tales of running out of fuel (and the remedy).

When all else fails you can "prime" a diesel by running it on WD-40 until the fuel reaches the injectors. Spray the oil into the intake and it will run on it. Do not use starting fluid as it is too volatile.

    Dump trailer direct wire?

I use the Anderson style connectors on my dump and hydraulic dove tail goose neck trailer batteries as well as my tractors and pick up. This allowed me to create a "modular" system to provide emergency power to any battery that gets weak by plugging the trailer into the tow vehicle. I also keep...

4 wheel drive all the time? or just when needed

"Do set up a video and let us see you do that with forks and a machine out front while you are in a uncontrolled slide. Anyone have difficulty engaging/disengaging 4wd in a BX series? If so, possible solution....

Check the linkage going to the 4wd selector lever to ensure everything is tight. I had the same issue on my BX2660 and it was the linkage near the gear case that had come loose. It may not look like it, but you can get a socket on the bolt to tighten it.

BX24 starving for fuel and not running

I had an issue with bugs getting into the fuel tank of my BX2660 from a farm tank nozzle which blocked the fuel line resulting in the same symptoms you have. In my case I could pull the fuel line, blow back through it to clear it and it might stay clear for days or it could happen again quickly...

L-5040 GST Dies when trying to go forward

It will crank with a defective (open) seat safety switch. Trust me I found that out the hard way. Find the plug going to the seat switch, unplug it and short across it so it imitates a closed circuit. If the problem disappears that is the culprit.

Looking at the L4060 have some Questions

I own an L4060 cab model. I can assure you it will not lift the 2K pallets, but it will not have any problem moving/lifting an IBC full of wood green or seasoned. I use IBC's for wood and they hold roughly 1/3 of a cord each if stacked level with the top of the cage, so they actually weigh less...

    Wood splitters

A friend and I are lucky enough to be able to get enough wood locally to keep three families in enough wood to keep their wood stoves fed all winter. We cut the trees into 11 foot logs and load them into a dump trailer to be moved to our wood yard. We buck them up when we are ready to split. I...

4 wheel drive all the time? or just when needed

When I first started driving one of the instructions my Dad passed on was to use 2wd until you really needed 4wd because if you keep it in 4wd and then get stuck you are probably not getting out, but if you are in 2wd the application of 4wd might get you moving. I kept my 3010 in 4wd...

Have you performed a coolant system pressure test? If not I would at the very least check it just to re-assure myself that it is not a head gasket. Kioti DK4710SE HST Cab - The Right Tractor for Me?

    Drill Bit Sets

I have had good luck with the sets Drill America sells. By far the biggest improvement I have made to my drill collection was to add a Drill Doctor sharpener to my shop. I always thought they were a gimmick, but they work very well and are easy to use. I have sharpened a 5/8 bit and gone as...
