    Seized chainsaw

You had me fooled there for a bit. "No compression" means the piston moves but you get no pressure at the top of the stroke. You actually mean you could not even move the piston, right? Nope. My neighbor and I are the kings of dull-chain sawing and we, also, have never seized an engine...

Sorry, revised my post. But you want the maximum heat differential to get the maximum fan speed. That would be as my revised post says. density differences in this case are trivial to fan speed.
  16. D

Wood stove top fans (heat powered)

That type fan needs heat on bottom and cool on top to function. So hottest spot on stove, while at same time drawing the coolest air through fan is ideal. So - if rear is hot, that is best since cooler air can be drawn through. Actually those fans could use a design change where an ‘offset’...

What teams will play in the next Superbowl?

So with the OT rules, there is another way the coin-toss-losing team can still give themselves a chance to win ——-> hold the opponent to only a field goal. Rule makers probably thought the coin-calling team has 2 chances: call it correct, or have a defense up to the task. How many chances...

Kubota engine difficult to turn over when cold (not battery)

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

Yep, the 'framer' I used built houses for a living and he gave me recommendations for plumber, HVAC, electrician, roofer. I knew a concrete guy for basement and septic tanks and a drywall finisher (I put up the board myself). I did most other things myself.

Do I need a general contractor to build a house?

I had no GC for my house. I made some mistakes but nothing i cannot live with. I had a guy make drawings and i got the county to approve them. If u r ambitious and willing to take a little risk and control your own destiny (so to speak) u can do it and save a bunch of $ too.

    Wood lathes, who knows what?

I have been using a lathe for decades. Had an old (60s) Delta with stepped pulley. It worked fine. For a starter, it would be fine. Now have a Smithy Ironwood (no longer made). It has the DC motor controller for variable speed. It is indeed more functional, but by no means necessary...

    Heat a basement?

Very good. Couldn't agree more. But you pay more for it too. That is all i have been saying.
  166. D

    Heat a basement?

If one compares apples to apples, that is not the case. For example If u had the stove on the 1st flr you'd need no other heat there and above but the basement would be colder and utility cost lower. Peace
  167. D

    Heat a basement?

No maybe about it. That is why I said, "physics says....." With an air duct open in the basement, one is heating all that air space and not just the floor itself. It is the "thermodynamics" branch of physics that tells us this. But, hey, I do appreciate the skeptical thing. I can be that...
  168. D

Which brands have more metal, and which brands have more plastic?

My Bobcat has almost no plastic for body parts. Plastic only on control knobs, instrument panel, fuel tank.
  169. D

    Heat a basement?

    Sure, and it costs more

I noticed your name. I once had a 64 1/2 Mustang with the 289. I liked that car. Not a fan of the Mach-E looks though.
  171. D

    Heat a basement?

I heat mine cuz i use it. Physics says if u dont use it, dont heat it. It will cost more to heat the extra space.

    TroyBilt 8HP Horse Refurb

Yeah i have heard other sayings of his, just not that cool one. I have been to England and the pub beer is not "cold" but neither would i call it "warm." I'd call it "cool." Not as badly warm as it's reputation. 👍

So, not sure i follow. Musk is only worth a lot because of the stock he owns. He is not taking any profits of sales of the cars. He is choosing to grow the company by expanding. He is no different than any other company in that aspect. Tesla is not making more money than other car companies...

    Beet Juice Tire Ballast

Actually windchill is an animal specific thing. Machinery only knows temperature. Wind make s no matter. Well, slight caveat where somehthing is 'wet' and can evaporate, but then minor. In this case of fluid inside tires and cannot evaporate - windchill means nothing.
