The difference is the Ford is a compact tractor and the Kubota BX is a sub-compact.

    Berry trellis

Oh. Those are a bit harder to manage, but my recommendation is to try them without a trellis and see if you need one. You can always hedge trim them if they get unruly. The reason I say those are harder to manage (floricane varieties) is that you need to prune out the old canes, while keeping...

    Berry trellis

I’ve been growing raspberries for about 10 years. I grow the primocane varieties, so they fruit from new canes each year and I cut the old canes to the ground each winter. So I don’t use a trellis; I just let them form bushy rows.
  5. jyoutz

    Berry trellis

Yes. Lots of shoots. I just till between berry rows to keep them in check.

You Know You Are Old When

    Land Pride Vs Ironcraft/Titan

The front rubber guard tears when you cut over stumps and the rear steel band gets banged up. Chain guards on front and rear will avoid those issues.

What do you suppose this weed barrier was made of??

IDK what it’s made of, but I have some of that high quality weed barrier that’s been under gravel for the past 19 years in a landscaping bed. Still working well.

    Plantar Fasciitis, what a curse!!

I have no problem now after the ASTYM therapy and good orthotics. Many other people find relief the same way. Surgery is a last resort.
  19. jyoutz

    Favorite diesel can?

I have a 30 gallon fuel caddy and it works but does require the loader to load/unload from the truck. I have been toying with the idea of buying a larger transfer tank and mounting it onto a small trailer. So, it’s easy to hook up to a vehicle and tow to fill it.

    Plantar Fasciitis, what a curse!!

Yep, for mild cases that is a strain. The OP and I were describing chronic situations. Chronic situations are caused by tendon damage.
  21. jyoutz

    Plantar Fasciitis, what a curse!!

If stretching cures the problem, it’s a strain, not true plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is tendon damage, either weakness or a tear. Meds simply reduce pain but don’t fix the tendon damage. Once the plantar fascia tendon is damaged, it is always weak and needs support. A lot of what people...

Thanks for posting. A very interesting read.
  23. jyoutz

    Plantar Fasciitis, what a curse!!

I don’t consider orthotics to be a scam. They work well for me. Yes the pain is due to lack of flexibility, but that lack is due to tendon damage. That’s why the ASTYM physical therapy helps: to break up the old scar tissue. Perfectly fit shoes are a huge help and I don’t wear orthotics in my...

    Plantar Fasciitis, what a curse!!

    Pocket Gopher Control

It probably works for you because of the hard pan soil depth limitation and most likely heavy clay soil. In more loamy soil, flooding is useless because it percolates and doesn’t flood the entire tunnel system. In my area, trapping is most effective.

I had that for 14 years. Orthopedic insoles prescribed by a podiatrist makes it tolerable. But what really helped was a physical therapy treatment I had called ASTYM. Eight treatments and my plantar fasciitis was cured after suffering for 14 years. I still wear the orthotics insoles. See if...

True enough. I prefer the 6 cylinders for economy and diesels for power. Really two different classes of truck.
  38. jyoutz

Ram vs Dodge/Chrysler - how complete is the separation?

The high performing v6 engines are more than adequate and better than the v8s of 30 years ago for 1/2 ton trucks. And diesel engines are so much better for heavy duty trucks and towing. There really isn’t a need for v8s in trucks anymore.

    Making Mugolio or Pine Syrup

Well, working in the woods I have bitten down on a few pine needles and tasted sap balls. It never made me think this would be something good to eat. Native Americans used to strip bark and eat the soft inner cambium of pines during times of hardship, but it was never a preferred food.

I cannot remember how the machine started. I know it was a bit slow in cold weather. You could also just have a prematurely failing battery. I replaced my original with a battery specified for a Honda car. The case size is almost the same as the JD battery, but it has more CCA.

    JD 4110

I had a 4100 (earlier version) for many years. That is a tough machine and easy to service. It will easily handle a 4’ rotary cutter, 54” tiller, and 6’ rear blade. Be careful with the mid mount mower because it has a tendency to throw up dry chaff into the radiator, causing overheating. It...

Off the table for on the shelf sales to anyone, but you can buy it with an applicator’s license. You don’t necessarily have to renew the license and do annual classes. Just buy enough up front (2 1/2 gallons of concentrate) and you will have enough for years to come.

    glyphosate and 24D mix Expiration?

I think a tank neutralizer is worth a try. Or just use the sprayer for weed killer. I have 3 sprayers: weed killer, insecticide, and liquid fertilizer. That way you don’t need to neutralize the tanks, just rinse them after use.

I do that on my Kubota, and 1000 RPMs is plenty low enough to engage the PTO without clanging. On an old pre-emissions JD (Yanmar engine) I used to own, running at RPMs less than 1000 would result in the low oil pressure light coming on.

For machinery and implements you need an oil based paint, not a latex. The latex paint would be perfectly fine painting metal on a house, like black iron pipe gas lines, ect… but those aren’t subject to abrasion while being used. Oil based enamel like Rustoleum is best for the OP’s use.

Question for those who live in California

Very light fuels are a different thing. However if it were windy, that narrow road wouldn’t stop the fire from spotting across it. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that narrow road held because it was burned out and held by crews. The uniform burn pattern is an indication of being burned...

Question for those who live in California

It’s true that there will not be a running crown fire for many years after a high severity fire, but these areas can reburn if they regrow to heavy brush. Or even burn as a grass fire, but the severity obviously wouldn’t be as much compared to a high density forest crown fire.
  187. jyoutz

Question for those who live in California

Wind is tough and changes the game. But that’s why indirect control lines are built sometimes miles from the fire front. By burning out and holding that line, your effective fuel break can be a half mile to a mile wide. Fires are stopped by black ground and no more fuel to burn.
  188. jyoutz

Question for those who live in California

A little bit of wildfire behavior is necessary to unravel the story. A dozer line might contain fire spread in light fuels like grass (without high winds), but in brush or forest fuels, fire lines are only built so they can be back fired. The dozer line doesn’t stop fires, the line is only to...
  189. jyoutz

Question for those who live in California
