The manual calls for "JD all weather hydrostatic" or type F automotive ATF. What's in there now is reddish looking ATF. I'm thinking to drain and replace the filter. I run Valvoline maxlife (red jug) in my Honda and Toyota cars. Can I use that? I do also use low viscosity hygard in my JD4100.

Got it. I will have regen because I'm looking at 35-40HP. I think 2 posts above is the info I'm looking for. "The 4215 has regen. TYM diesels however are mechanical injection, so there is no ECM to hobble the engine if there is a DPF issue."

I think everything is twisted. I squared up the fork, the hub, but still out 5 degrees or so. The A frame on the tail wheel looks about right, but the receiver for the fork shaft is tilted. Almost looks like it was welded that way, but no signs of rewelding. It's workable but bugs me

Mystery continues. I let it sit for over a week. Last night I pulled off the air cleaner and tried to remove the breather cover. I got it loose (one nut in the center of the cover), but could not remove it as it sits behind the carb. I put it back, and for the heck of it, blew compressed air...

Reading where a plugged breather could cause blowback out the dipstick. The breather tube was not pulled through into the air cleaner, but that was not the issue. However maybe the overfilled oil or some other plugged the interior breather.

Well. As of today it's now blowing hard out the oil fill/dipstick tube. Blows the dipstick out with a mist of oil. Exhaust valve issues? Runs normal otherwise. Kids had overfilled the oil. Could that be related? (But I don't think less oil is going to be the fix now).

Ran fine again today. Maybe that crimp on terminal was the issue? Maybe something got flushed from the fuel line?

Ran it for an hour tonight. Go figure. Maybe the wire connector? Maybe draining out a half gallon of gas? I now see a small oil leak forward and above the carb. But it's about 1/4" above the full mark.

This is the old 300 hydrostat "lawn" tractor. From the 70s I think. Kohler one cylinder engine. I see & "feel" spark at both ends of the plug so pretty sure it's fuel related. Not sure if it has a fuel filter or not. Would the carb bowl have 15-20 minutes of fuel?

It will start right up, runs at least 10 minutes or longer, then starts sputtering, maybe backfires, and eventually dies. It won't start for awhile. I let it sit overnight. Replaced plug, no change. Has spark. Does not seem to have gas. At least the plug was dry when I took it out. Any ideas?
