If it can be angled, it can be pitched by lifting. Can it be angled? I never seen one.
Edit: just looked it up, it appears it is limited to 3-1/2" of adjustment, and while it can be angled up to 18 degrees, seems the adjustment keeps it parallel. So no, can not crown.
Mix in equal parts, flour, sugar and sodium bicarbonate. (Baking soda). Leave where the mice can get to it. Works for rats as well. They can't digest the sodium bicarb. It kills them. Traps are fun, but ineffective. It works, may be cruel, but it works. Also, your chickens and cats won't have a...
I have my implements set on blocks on level ground as I disconnect them. It is still a pain in the neck. When I put the 9' flail mower on, I have to flip the mounts for the lift arms so it can articulate more. Everything else I have to flip them back. The disc mower is a heavy beast and my...
Glad I was able to buy my pt425 south of Manchester TN. I also have a Steiner 230. The power trac runs out of steam with a full bucket going up hills. 8 have to weave side to side. I suspect a new one would have more power. My Steiner has a two speed gearbox driven by a hydraulic motor. Has more...
A new one would be how much? The tiller attachment probably costs that new. I know many repower them pretty easily. If it does what you need doing, and the price seems ok to you, I say go for it. Not many bcs machines for sale used around me.
8 horsepower is more than enough to do any amount...
Silver brazing is the correct term, higher silver content and more nickle. It does require higher temps but is still considered silver soldering. Just make sure you clean off all the oxide that builds on the carbide. Diamond stone for the win.
Have you considered silver solder. Precision isn't really required and with oxy/acetylene shouldn't take too long, provided you have the carbide teeth.
Is it possible to move the cable that controls the direction to either above, or below the lever pivot point? If above, when you push forward, you push the cable, and if below, the same action pulls the cable. I don't own a bcs, but have gravely tractors, one old style with opposite lever to...
Was making hay yesterday and wife said rain was coming. She took out the 425 with the big bucket and was hauling 4 bales at a time from the field while I was fighting the baler twine. No more sisal for me. Was proud of her as she got 52 bales in before I finished baling. Then she drove the...
I am curious what purposes a regular tractor will cover that you need. As someone who has farm tractors and a power trac, there is significant cases for each. Unless I need pulling power or three point specifically, I always grap the PT. When it comes to cutting and baling hay, the PT stays in...
Depending on how well cared for, you may be in the ballpark. Post it for sale and see if you get any action. I would think you are probably at maximum, but I have been surprised before. Good luck with the sale. Sorry for your loss.
Yup, as always it depends. Reclaiming overgrown stuff or tall green grass is the hardest and requires more HP, or smaller bites and slower speed. But if you are maintaining, you can run as big a flail as the tractor will lift. It is all about how much material you have to move through it.
I have a 9' dandl flail that uses a -v- type hanger,(move the dashes up to the top of the v) and u shaped pieces that are held in by pins with a cotter holding in the pin. The flail master catalog shows these. So not all dandl flails used d rings.
Thanks for the information. As I said, these came with the tractor when I bought it. I have been thinking about making a hedge clipper out of a sickle mower. These motors just might be the ticket. Sorry it won't work out for you, as I have two of them. Good luck with yours. I hope it is an easy...
Send pictures of the motor. I have a couple of hydraulic motors that came with my 425. We might be able to work something out. I am not far from you. In Sweetwater. I have no idea if they would even be the right rpm's but we can start with pics.
Larry
That looks like a well cared for machine. The bachtold is supposed to be a good machine, but I think you are going to like the C8. The dual wheels make it impossible to tip over on side hills. I saw you have a MA106 brush cutter to. They will cut up anything it can push over, 1-1/2" stuff is...
The L and C I think used the same configuration with the mag. So it should work. The governor is nice, but I don't find not having one to be a problem. Mine was worn out, so I removed it. The t-head engine is easy to rev low, those flywheels keep the torque available. You did get the manuals...
Whenever I use my auger, I pull it up every few inches it digs. I too have done the rear wheel lift while drilling. Don't let it dig too much at a time. Plus if you lift almost all the way out, it spins the dug dirt out around the hole for packing later. Don't let it become a corkscrew, as the...
Sound like a clutch is not grabbing, not sure how those new fangled two wheelers work, as I only have Gravelys. My guess is clutch. Not worn out, just not doing what it is supposed to be doing.
Someone will be along shortly that knows these. You could also call Joel at earth tools.
I am not a bcs guy, but does the lever travel the same amount when the handlebars are reversed? Seems like one of the control cables may be misadjusted. Post some pictures and some of us that don't know bcs might see something. Or call Joel at earthtools. I hear he is very helpful, even if you...
Throttle it down to a low idle, count to ten and turn off the key. I am not sure why the robin engine does this. But that has worked for me. Good luck.
I am sure there are many also who cuss at the word predator. Your sample size of one, is statistically irrelevant. While you had a bad experience, and others may have also. I would bet that you would find the predator to be a much worse decision. But hey, you get to make that twice, to one...
If you can get a Honda for anywhere close to the price of the predator, you would be crazy not to get the Honda. Warranties won't cover removal and reinstallation. Has anyone ever complained about a Honda engine. I don't recall anyone complaining about one. Take @agjones up on his offer.
Thanks for the post. So that's what an early pt looked like. Not going to lie, were it near me, I might be all over that. Please don't tell me where it is. I don't need it.
Larry
My guess would be a 25a. Never seems that blade arrangement though. Not a Deere expert though they do interest me. Someone way more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly. Congrats
I was in paper before, just not web printing. Thanks for the link, just read it. I can not believe that was done. Would have been my last day on the job and would have went to get a different one. Nip points are serious, we had a guy de-gloved on a flexo for corrugated. Glad that is all that...
With the amount of pokeweed we have, purple bird poops are a given, my neighbor has had a muscadine Vines for over ten years, when I asked if I could take some cuttings, he said do what you want, it don't make no grapes. He never pruned it in 10 years. Spent an afternoon in February cutting it...
I was going to comment on the age, good size so had to be there a while. I am growing muscadine and concord, the wine is great, never tried to make jam. As they produce more, I will give it a try. Waiting for the mulberries to ripen now.
Basically it has a centrifugal cam that prevents the valves from closing all the way until the engine spins at a running speed. This makes it easier to pull over. Once it fires the engine speeds up on firing and the cam allows valves to close. You will not be able to spin it fast enough to check...
Sounds like the needle is not blocking the fuel when the bowl fills. Is the plug wet? Disassemble and clean the carb. Count number of turns in on needles before removing them so you can put them back to the same setting. (Screw in until it stops with light pressure while counting). Gaskets can...
If all you are cutting is grass and weeds, and not brush. There is a blade between hammers and y blades. Scoop blades make a nice level cut at the expense of being as durable as heavy y blades. You only need half as many as they present a horizontal cutting face to the grass. I had them on my...
Mine is a 68', they started calling the L8 a C8 when they upped the hp to 7.6hp vs the L8 6.6. this is a gravely T-head, and I like it better than my 5240. You can definitely lug the gravely engine. With the hills I have, the pressurized lubrication gives me piece of mind.
Prepped the garden today with the gravely rotary plow on my C8. Also prepared a planting area for more raspberries. The thing sat all winter with the fuel off when I shut it down last fall. Choked it and it fired on the first pull. Funny thing is, my most reliable equipment on the farm is also...
Recently used the 12" auger to set posts for grapevines, then again to plant. I use the LMB all the time. I have an occasional stream in my valley, I used the minihoe to dig out some lift limit rocks. Had to roll them out before I could lift with the bucket. Need them for the goats to climb on...
Nice, that would be a nice addition to my D7007. Wish mine didn't have such a large turning radius. Mine sips fuel too and really only use it for mowing and haying.
I have been impressed with my Everlast 200st. Have had zero problems and it does everything I need. Stick and scratch start tig. Dual ac input voltage. I think you may be surprised. Good luck.
Can I ask how much? Just so people can compare. Those are nice looking machines. The price is what stops me. I am sure they are worth it. We'll need pics when you get it of course. Congrats.
Larry
Put an accelerant and burn them out. Drill a hole down the center. As long as you don't make an inferno, the concrete should be fine. You may have to clean out after.
As a first generation play farmer, none of my equipment has any pass down historic value to me, but my heirs,(fancy word for the kids) may want the stuff I have acquired. Not that I am done acquiring. I have many *ad's. I like tools, especially those with engines. My truck is an '81 F-150...
Nice, now I feel better about you getting rid of the bolens. You have heirlooms to pass down. Looks like nice grass for hay too. Sorry for the detail.
Larry
You will one day regret selling that machine. As you said, you have pictures of your dad running that machine 57 years ago. You could keep it and pass it on to your kids with a picture of you running it, along with papaw running it. It will still perform all the tasks it originally did. And for...
I don't know your machine, but if there is a lever that shuts down the engine, follow the cable to where it attached on the engine end. It has to pull on something, that something may not return to the run position when the lever is released. Make sure the thing that moves, moves back. Diesel...
Don't forget the top pivot. Might have to take the tunnel cover off to get to it. Not sure which machine you have. Greasing and spraying lube are the most important next to clean lubricants and hydraulic oil. Pretty simple machines.
Good luck.
Edit to add. I see your signature line, you have a...
I just mailed my wild thang to a guy in MI for some build thing. I hated that saw, but it always started so I couldn't throw it away. Maybe it kept my other saws in line just by being reliable. Some guy posted looking for some green and purple. I couldn't box it up fast enough. Hell, I even...
I hate that you had to do this. Good of you for sharing though. You may have just saved one of us a whole day. Thanks, will check the cleanliness of my machine tomorrow.
Yeah, those things. Strange you have a primer bulb, but only a carb supply line and not a return line. The return line is usually smaller. Hemostats, have to remember that name. Double check that you only have one line, I have been known to be wrong, ask my wife! Lol
Sounds like you need a box blade. That is a large span with a thin cross section, if you make it strong enough to not bend, it will become too thick for some uses. You need something to break it up with.
Drill the hole for the fuel line a little smaller than the tygon line, cut line at an angle so you can feed it through the hole. Pull line through hole with needle nose pliers. No more fitting required. Do this with return line too. There are people that want wild things for build offs. Don't...
Tygon and ethanol is your problem. The fuel lines are rotting away. Replace all the lines and filter and clean the carb by disassemble and reassemble. I hate ethanol fuel with tygon lines.
I have yet to have a task that I absolutely needed the 425. I have 2 other tractors, none with fel mounted. I have a fel for the Deutz, but it needs some work on the cylinders, I will get to it in due time. Most of my tasks can be handles with three point attachments. I will eventually solve the...
If it was cold enough to snow here, and we got enough that needed to be moved, regardless where my cables are, I would be shoveling. My PT does not like the cold. 5040 doesn't live close enough to get it started for me either.
Thankfully, we don't get any snow worth mentioning.
Mine are labeled, not sure what year mine is as I bought it used. The left is throttle and the right is chock. Down being max throttle and max closed choke. Funny, today mine started right up, of course it was 60f today.
I know how to use a choke, seems the spark is not very hot on the 425 with Robin engine. They make a hotter coil to increase the spark, but just may live with the limitation. Once I finish my building it lives in. The wood stove will be run to warm things up prior to use. But, if you are so sure...
How many hours of abuse did it take to get that way, I only say abuse, as most of us push our machines beyond the stated limits. Just curious so I know about when mine is going to fail.
I agree, patch and fillet weld. At least you caught it before you had to bend it back into shape first.
I have not claimed this, feel free to pursue this. I just want it to go to a good home. Goose is a good guy, dealt with him in the past. He won't do you wrong.
Larry
Most of the things I would use it for like gathering firewood, hauling gravel, would involve steep hills. I find I would not be able to pull up the hills with the 425. I would maybe be able to use it on my Ferguson with a hitch on the lift arms. Seems like I want it more than I need it. Lol
I bought the 2 stroke oil that has the squeeze measuring second reservoir, kept the container. I refill with whatever kind I find, hard to mix 40:1 with the little 2.6oz. bottles. I know most run 50:1, but I don't.
Is it me Robin Subaru engine? If so they don't like the cold. I try to not start it when it is the coldest part of the day. I have a wood stove in my building, and will warm the area up ahead of time when I am planning to use it. I will say this, turn it over without the choke on a few times...
There is a very low hour 1430 that got posted time classified section not that long ago. Might want to check there as well. Good luck whatever you do. Deutz really makes or made a great oil cooled engine.
More spring tension will allow higher rpms as it prevents the governor's ability to throttle down. The governor's job is to maintain rpm's, when you throttle up, you are pulling the governor's arm to increase throttle. Use a slightly stronger spring, or move the spring closer to the pivot point...
Most governors have an arm the moves as rpms increase. Usually there is a spring that resists the movement. The arm is linked to the throttle plate of the carb. Connect the spring to something to put some tension on it, remove the link to carb, use the original speed control to control the...
Which will work wonderfully on a flat surface. Which I don't have, that's why I was wondering how he controls the front height. I think he is going to need gage wheels on the front. I am thinking about a similar setup for my pt.
I just read this thread and noticed that gravelys were mentioned, but the models mentioned had the Kohler engines without a pressurized lubrication system. I have a 5240 and find it harder to use than my 68 C8. The older gravely that has a Studebaker (T-head) engine is much lighter and more...
As long as you want it to cut grass that isn't two feet tall, sounds like a winner. Does it have the scoops or the Y blades? As long as you aren't looking for a golf course cut, you will be happy. So between golf course and hay field should be the sweet spot for a finish flail. Let us know.
Thank you, felt like I was with the rest of you during my lurking in this forum time. All of you kept me going through my indecision. I have a couple of tractors for the haying, mowing the fields. Just kept wanting a small manueverable loader. Now I have one.
It may be fall when people would rather sell a sickle than store it. Will be looking for a non-pitman arm unit like a 451, as I want to be able to trim along my driveway. As well as horizontally. Will definitely post a thread about it when it happens. Did you find out about your glowing...
I purchased Redzebra's PT-425 back a few weeks and thought I would post an update. This machine is remarkable. I read this forum for a couple of years at least prior to making this purchase. I had been paralized through analysis for a while and was ready to buy a Branson 2515h when this came up...
After spending the last 4-5 years reading this forum, I think 1500-2000 hours is a safe range. So at the 100/year rate you are looking at 15-20 years. My limited experience with the robin 25 HP engine seems like around 1 gallon per hour. So you are looking at using between $4200-$6000 dollars...
While I am sure that Facebook has its uses, I have not as yet found that I needed it. Never been there, probably won't start unless I can be convinced of it's qualities that I can not find elsewhere. But then I also don't Amazon either. So I might be I the minority.
To quote Rodney Dangerfield...
It goes both ways as you know goose.. I am glad that I got to talk to a great guy too. You had first choice and decided to do something that is unusual, at least as far as some are concerned. You and I have made an arrangement that allows us both to benefit. I think it is more normal in the...
What would it take for you not to buy it? I too am looking at it, I sent an pm last night as I had not seen your dibs call. I respect your right as you were indeed first. Let me know. I am in east tn
Saw the color and assumed it was a welder. I have had my 200st for a few years now, and it impresses me everytime I use it. Just used it today welding on new cat2 ball ends (I guess that is what they are called) on my 3point lift arms.
I agree, with 65 hp you really are limiting yourself with a 6' flail. I run a 9' Dandl behind my 70 hp deutz. Unless I am in 4' tall thick green grass, I don't even notice it. I am also pretty sure my D7007 doesn't have 70hp anymore, either.
You can't use the grapple for the 180 as it doesn't have a hydraulic circuit for the attachment lock, the 422 and up do. So no circuit to open/close the grapple.
Include me in sending prayers for him and his wife. I don't know the man, but have read many of his posts. He has helped me without his knowing, or perhaps he does know. Thank you ShieldArc for all the information you have provided to so many over the years. May your health as well as your...
Well, I was trying to help out a college friend of my daughter, he was looking for a motorcycle. I picked him up a Buell Blast and went through it, new tires, battery, master cylinder, blah blah blah. Anyway, he wasn't coming around to make his purchase. I asked him if he wanted it or not. He...
Just picked up a 5204 with 40" grass mower and skulky (sp) for $75. Guy said it didn't work and there was water on the dipstick. He helped me load it in the pickup and I brought it home. Drained water out of oilpan, and gearbox. Seems it was left out in the rain for a while with no filler cap on...
I live on 21 acres in East Tn. We run what I call a non-profit farm, (we don't make any money). We have goats and fowl. We also have about 12 acres of pasture and areas of wild "Rabbitat". Being rural, we figured having rabbits and other small critters, would prevent fox and coyote from trying...
I was browsing the local letgo app the other day when I spotted an old 60" Yazoo yr-60 .1 turn mower, not quite zero turn. Did a little research and checked it out. Runs good, gearbox works properly why not. Offered him less than he asked, counter was good. So I brought it home. Talk about...
Just in from welding. I could not weld and read clamp on amp meter. So will have to do without that bit. Used a phone to take the pictures. then had to resize. Hope they came out all right.
Welder setting DCEN
Extension cord with 120Vdongle
Weld 1/8" Hobart 7018. No rod oven, stored inside the...
My blades were on correctly for the tire rotation direction but wanted to try to see the difference with the opposite rotation. Here is a picture of the blades while in the process of reversing them.
Changing rotor direction on this flail is a 10 minuted job. Remove 4 mounting bolt from under...
First off, this being my first thread I started, I just want to say this place is great. After reading through 384 pages and 3839 posts, I purchased a DANDL 9 foot flail mower on ebay. Could not find any bad reviews, or good reviews, so will do that once I get it. I have to arrange shipping yet...
