Why should the tip (now tax free BTW) be based on the amount of the bill. I've had better service at the local diner for a $10 meal, than at a fancy restaurant where you're lucky to get out under $25 each. Tips should be based on service, not the amount of the bill.

    Banking… how things have changed

Most people think that anything over $10k gets reported. Truth is, anything over $3k gets reported, you just don't know it. Especially if it's a one time thing, and you don't own a business account with them. When (if) you deposit the cash, tell them the truth. You sold a trailer. It will be...

    Nail Gun Opinions

Having built several houses over the years, and using different framing crews, most (not all) use pneumatic nailers. 21° is by far the most popular. I originally had a Porter-Cable framing nailer. It was good until I dropped it. The repair guy told me to get a different brand because PC is...

    Hip Replacement surgery

Pain is the worst for the first couple of weeks. If you do your PT religiously, you should see some big improvement soon. I've had both hips and 1 knee replaced. I'll never do another knee. I still have pain 5 years later in the knee.

    Hip Replacement surgery

I've had both hips done (anterior?). They went in thru the front, not the side or back. Doc said no restrictions, but would rather you not climb a ladder for a few days. I divorced the walker before I left the hospital the next day. After the first one was done, I was playing golf in 5 weeks...

US Automatic Gate Opener Photo Eye Delete

Glad you were able to solve your issue with the relay. But for those who haven't run out and gotten a relay to do their own gate, I took the infra red, and the reflector, butted them face to face and wrapped them with duct tape to secure the "marriage", and placed them on top of the garage...

    Kraken Spray Foam?

I recently used closed cell spray foam cans (20 oz each) to insulate a Ford Transit Cargo van. They actually worked really well for my use. I bought a kit off Amazon for $275(?) that was 12 cans, gun with adjustable rotating nozzle, zoot suit, mask, goggles. Have you thought about leaving your...

Anybody add a Power Beyond to a 2638?

Buddy says just 6, but it appears as though the "empty" port is on top of the valve body, right up against the floor board. Don't think you could even put an "L" fitting on it. Will have to take another look and see tomorrow.

Anybody add a Power Beyond to a 2638?

Friend of mine bought a lightly used 2638. His hydraulic valve body is under the floor board, with a cable operated joystick on the fender. Trying to decipher if there are power beyond ports on the Besko control valve, and how to add a manual 2-way joystick valve on the loader to operate a...

All great suggestions from rScotty. I'd call a local hydraulic shop and see what they say as well. Somebody who works on excavators, big trucks, etc. IMO they are more qualified to diagnose your problem than (most) guys in the back of a dealership that are prepping tractors and implements for...

    Revolting internet charge increases

If you have decent cell service thru Verizon or T-Mobile, look into their whole house wifi routers. Mainly for rural areas. I pay $50/month to Verizon for 40-60 Mbps and there's no limit of use, nor do they throttle it back.

Southern VA lot - What to do

Couple of suggestions: For your "pole barn", look into a post and beam construction. (Or for that matter, just frame it like a house) Much better IMO, and something you and a couple of buddies could do yourselves. If you decide to do build it yourself, get an account at a local lumber yard vs...

    Mahindra 5155 Canopy / Sunshade

Many of us have used a scrap golf cart top, mounted to some type of A frame, bolted or welded to the ROPS. I did mine for $30. Including the paint. Tough to tell from my pic to the left, but I painted to top white to reflect the sun, and the bottom tractor red. It's a god-send!

Ditto on the impact driver (mine is DeWalt as well) And recently, added a step bit set for the drill bits. Wow....what a difference.

    2538 OBD port location

I have an open station 2538 and mine is right in front of the firewall, in the engine compartment. I suspect yours will be too. IIRC, it isn't "mounted" to the firewall, but just hangs by the harness wires.

    Tractor Causing Stress on Neck

Sounds like you'll be leaning toward a higher HP tractor (> 50 hp). I would think you could find one that would allow the installation of one of the rotating seats used on the larger farm tractors. Probably easier to find that, than a front PTO and 3 pt hitch setup.

    Erie Homeowners Insurance

We had Erie insurance for 25+ years for home and auto. Great rates. Very particular who they take on as clients. We we moved to SC, they don't do business here because of the hurricane probability on the coast. We live on the west side of the state (near GA) but they exclude the entire state...

Mowing with 100hp and 3-pt Finish Mower

I have an 84" Phoenix, 3 pt Finish mower and have mowed 10 acres (with trees) with it for 6 years. Like you, the land is more like pasture than a golf course. I want it to look nice, but it's bumpy. I mowed it once with a ZT, and I'll NEVER do that again. Beat the crap out of me. My concern for...

    "Extra" connection on battery cables

Just to be sure, take your multi-meter and pretend this wire is actually hot, and then ground your other probe on the meter. If you get voltage, it could be another hot wire, rather than a ground. Was there any after market accessories on the tractor when you got it? Might be a ground to...

    House Build 2023

Agree with all those who suggest going to single door on the north wall, vs the double doors. They look nice from the street, but waste a ton of energy and space inside. Only other thing that stood out to me was your water heater closet. Go with an outdoor tankless mounted near the laundry room...

New 3 stall shop suggestion requests

Stole my post! I was just going to suggest this. Also...I would highly recommend 10x10' doors. You may "upgrade" your equipment before the garage/shop falls down. And maybe a wood burning stove, with a fan blowing across it. Probably a helluva lot cheaper than paying for elec. (unless you're...

Building a tractor bridge, long-ish span

If you can get the 36" for $1200, I'd jump on that quicker than Tomcat jumps on a cat in heat. AND..the 36" will give you more than twice the compacity for flow than a 24". Be sure to use some hard clay or other material to bury it so it won't erode around the mouth of the culvert at high flow...

Building a tractor bridge, long-ish span

Since your creek bed gets 4' deep, I doubt if you can afford a 4'-6' diameter culverts. The 24" ones are $1000+ for a single 20' stick. (you said you wanted to get your bridge above the water flow line IIRC). And based on the width you have to deal with, I'm not sure this is the best alternative...

Rear Finish Mower Rhino FM72A (72") finishing mower.

I'm with Vigo on this one. Take the spindle and housing to a machine shop and let them work their magic. I don't think you can ignore it, nor do I think a belt sander and JB weld will do the trick. You'll get much better precision with a machine shop.

    Best midsized SUV

Of the choices you listed, I'd suggest the Mazda CX-9 by a landslide. Great power trains, little problems, if any. Shed/Shop

Just FYI...if you use 2x6's for the walls, you can space them 24" apart. (actually takes less wood that way) and you give yourself more space b/t studs to store stuff until you finish it off. I'd also suggest have a 6"-12" heel on your roof trusses to give you a little extra room for your...
