    Spring in Maine

What a beautiful 2nd day of spring up here!! I like this time of year because it's still cold at night (was 9F last night) and warm during the day (32now). So the ground is firm in the morning. With all the darn snow we had this year it gives me a chance to catch up a bit on yarding in next...

    New Holland Biodiesel approval document

I know there have been a few threads recently about biodiesel usage. I just happened to notice this document on the NH website today. It was linked to from this page. Looks like the Boomers are limited to B5 officially. ~paul

    New Horse Trailer

We picked up my wife's new horse trailer yesterday. I am not as exciting about it as I would have been a new 7-ton deckover deal, but at least I have the gooseneck installed now. Plus the price of the future deckover will seem "cheap" to her after what she just shelled out for the horse...

    B&W Turnover GN corrosion issues?

I'm just about to order a B&W turn over ball. I like the idea of only drilling one 4" hole in the bed and not having a metal plate on top of the bed. Oddly I found no B&W dealers in Maine (maybe did not look too hard.. but don't care as I'll buy one online and install it myself). But in speaking...

Oil & Fuel  Fuel issue solved..??

I had a somewhat perplexing issue today. Started the tractor, warmed it up then began to move some pallets of wood. The tractor lost power and died a few times. Seemed like a fuel issue. It had been 42 hours since I last changed the fuel filter, etc. So I pulled the filter/drained the bowl. It's...

    Snow Equipment Owning/Operating  Plowing Snow

Here in the Northeast we seem to be way ahead of our typical snowfall. Personally, I'm getting tired of it all..... hard to keep the skid road open for wood harvesting. Plus you burn lots of "extra" diesel moving the snow! Well, anyway, we have had several feet so far and it's snowing today...

    Tires  TC55DA tire position

Taking inspiration from Roto's excellent TC55DA photo-documentary on tire spacing adjustments, I finally got around to moving out a notch today myself. My wood splitter was a bugger to hook up at the "B" spacing - had to remove the sway bars and get one side at a time on... plus if I get chains...

Oil & Fuel  TC55 "real" fuel capacity

Manual says 13.5 gallons. The country store down the road has diesel so I top off frequently. But today I decided to run it down to the left side of the yellow warning area on the guage. I would have thought I'd take on 12 gallons, but still just 9. Anyone ever run it down lower than that...

    187D 4wd not working

A friend of mine has a 187D FWD. His front wheels will not engage now. The 4WD lever turns the rod that goes into the transmission, but when you shift in to 4WD the front drive shaft does not turn. So, presumably, the problem is in the transmission area. He's worried about the possibility of a...

    Another new TC55DA

Here it is – a new TC55DA. I was powerless against resisting the pre-season finance and rebate deal on the TC55. I was originally looking at 45HP, or so, machines. But as has been written in these forums numerous times, too much horsepower may be just enough. But the finance deal on the TC55...
