    Resharpen or Replace

I'm just slowing down a 7 year mowing business. I usually keep 8-12 sets of blades on hand. I went to one of those gizmos that holds the 4.5" angle grinder at the angle I set it at. Use a 40 grit flapper disk. Love it. I change my blades every day, usually after 3-4 large yards. Sharp...

Zero turn vs. 4X4 tractor for mowing

Going to these tires has helped me a lot. I mow a lot of pastures, fields, ditches, etc., and even regular lawns. On regular lawns, as long as I don't try to turn on a dime, they are fine. But I think it's obvious that I get better traction.

    1948 8N

I guess it depends on who you ask. I tend to abide by a trusted friend who has worked on small engines all his life, and he swears by it. His mower has round 20,000 hours on it, doesn't use any oil hardly. Been using it consistently. So, who do you believe ? They all have valid points. If I...

Thanks for the input. I figured the answer would be something like that. BTW, I run 30w HD diesel in my commercial mower.

Got another question. Tractor operators manual says to use SAE20 between 32 and 90 degrees. Just watched a YouTube where the gentleman says he uses 15w-40. What is the prevailing weight to use these days ??

Have another question. Trying to install a new boot at the bottom of the gearshift. Needless to say, it's a bear. Is there a special way to do that ? Or just get help and pull and tug ?

Have another issue. Trying to get the grille to fit. The spring loaded tabs at the two upper corners don't mate with the corresponding holes in the hood. The grille is not bent that I can see, there is no gap between the hood and side hood. None of the sheet metal at the hinge point of the...

    1948 8N

Thanks for the reply. When I say keeping it original, I mean not modifying what's already there. Adding something without destroying what's already there doesn't bother me too much. That was more of a curiosity question. If I was to come across a tach I just wondered if it would hook up.

    1948 8N

Let's say for the sake of argument I wanted to attach a tach anyway. The operator's manual talks about doing certain things at specific rpms. If wanted to attach one anyway, would I use the regular tach and tach drive cable ?

Just acquired a 1948 Ford 8N, that runs fine. Trying to restore it to as original as my pocketbook will allow. Therefore a little at a time. There was no cable coming off the back of governor, so then looked and learned it went to a tachometer/proofmeter on the dash. But there is no tach or...

Need 12Volt Terminals For Front Of Tractor

Have you considered some 175A Anderson connectors ? I attached appropriate sized cables from my battery, attached one of these to the other end, and bolted it to the winch bracket on front. Put another connector (each is identical) on one end of my jumper cables. Now I can jump with ease...

    Brush Grubber

I've used one for years. It works, slips at times, but has been effective enough to have made getting it worthwhile. But I like the chain and pipe setup. Might make one.

    BX25D won't go

Well, put me on the dumb guy list. The tractor was in neutral. I was moving some large limbs, and some brushed by me on the side of the tractor. Apparently one of them pushed the high/low lever, and because I never put it in neutral, so it didn't occur to me to check that. TMGT's referral...

    BX25D won't go

Thanks for the reply. Nope, all linkages appear ok. Rod 160 goes back to another swivel (?) which moves freely. The forward and back pedals move like they always have; smoothly with the springs, almost like shock absorber is attached. It's almost time for fluid change. I don't suppose a...

    BX25D won't go

2019 BX25D. Suddenly, yesterday, it stopped going. Would not go forward or backwards. The foot pedals move as they should. The front and rear buckets work normally. Checked fluid, it was a little low, so topped it off. Still no go. Looked underneath to check linkages, and from what I can...

    stuck pin

About 400 hours. I hadn't thought about dropping the outrigger, or removing the other pin to relieve any tension on the pin. Have too many other other projects going on I guess. Thanks for that suggestion.-

Bolts To Studs On BX Front Axle

That's a good fix. I had a similar problem on my BX255D with the bolts on the rear wheel constantly loosing up, don't know why. Anyway, the threads in the axle were striped, so I just drilled out the axle holes with 1/2" bit, and used grade 8 bolts and locknuts.

    stuck pin

Thanks MT. Have already unscrewed, and even replaced the zerk fitting. Even acquired one of those grease joint rejuvenators, didn't help. If the pin is solid, I can pound it out appropriately, but didn't know if it was. Certainly seems so, but didn't want to do the wrong thing to start off...

    stuck pin

2019 BX25D. During last greasing operation, I could not get grease in the top joint of the outrigger. The arrow points at it. I took the C clip off, thinking the pic would come out, but light tapping got nowheres. Before I hit it hard, I need to know if it is solid and OK to hit hard. Wish...

    Battery powered chainsaw

I have the 18" Ego from Lowes. Love it. Have put down several 18", 70" trees with no problem. Of course, I have to change the battery on occasion, but wouldn't go back to a gas saw. Unless I was in the business I guess, then I would have both.

    Zero Turn front tires

I have the Michelin Tweel wheels on the rear of my 2200 Ferris, and no-flat tires in the front. I don't know if they are hollow or solid. Don't care. I think the ride on both is a tad harder than the air tires, but with a "good" seat it doesn't matter. I'm on my mower 6 days a week, and used...

zero-turn mower, turning around w/o wrecking the grass

I do one of two methods. First, I make a lot of 3 point turns. Secondly, I divide the property into long rectangles. Then I cut the long sides only, making wide sweeping turns on the short sides. Yup, pivoting on a tire will do a divot (that's what a lot of folks call it). You aren't missing...

ATV tires on a Zero Turn?

I have a Ferris 2200 also, love it. I had the dealer install Michelin Tweel rear tires on it, no flats in the front also. The tire has a flatter footprint than the pneumatic tire, and I have found it to be more aggressive as far a slipping on loose terrain. I cut around a number of ponds, and...

    Mowing Steep Hills

I have Ferris and regularly mow the ditch at my church at a good 35 or so degrees. Not up and down, sideways. Been doing it for several years. The ditch bank is grassed and relatively flat, but I'm careful and slow, and don't do it when wet. So far, never had a any trouble.

Need a solution. Back problems and my Zero Turn.

Look at Ferris mowers, they have full suspensions. We're talking springs and shocks on all 4 wheels. I have a 1500, 700 and 2200. 2200 is the best. And add a seat where you dial in your weight.

    Engine dead

I'm sorta new here, been reading threads for a year or so. Finally have a problem of my own, not sure where to start. I have a 2016 BX-25D, sticker on motor says BX23. 565.3 hours. About a year and a half ago, I got the organisms in the fuel because I didn't know to keep the tank topped off...

scut ride comfort while mowing, R4 vs turf vs R14

I have a Ferris 2200. Michelin Tweel tires on the rear, no flats on the front (don't have to worry about flats). I had tractor lug tires on the previous, but I get very good traction with these, probably because of the larger footprint. Note the shocks and springs on all 4 wheels, and...

    String Trimmers

I have a grass cutting gig that keeps me busy 5-6 days a week. I use the Kobalt 80v weedeater, edger and blower. They work very well, as well as the Stihl equipment I also have. The 2.5AH batteries on the weedeater and blower will last 2 jobs usually, sometimes 3. I do ditches and ponds in...

    mowers.

I have 3 Ferris mowers. Two 52" cutters, and a 61" cutter. I have cut over grown grass up to 4' tall. Gotta go a little slower, hihi. Trick is to cut a little high, and use sharp, balanced blades. Don't use blades that have been sharpened so many times there isn't much metal at the end...

Anyone use an electric mower blade sharpener?

I have a grass cutting gig going that keeps me busy 5 days a week. I change my blades every day. They are easier to resharpen if they aren't too worn down. I have an Oregon sharpener, paid about $300 for it on Amazon. Been using it 3-4 times a week for several years, still on the same wheel...

Ok I feel like Dolly Parton.....

Betcha money you'll find one on Amazon. I have a couple of Ferris mowers, and the 13' deck belt one is $110. You can't just use any belt. Deck belts, or blade belts, are much stronger and less flexible than an ordinary belt.

    Glow plug problem.

About a month ago I developed the "algae" problem. I know it isn't really algae, and subsequently solved the issue, but since then I started having bad starting problems. Once I get it started, it purrs just fine. I'm not measuring any voltage on the glow plugs with the key in the on...
