which grease for slow & fast bearings & bushings

I used to use Red & Tacky but got tired of it separating out in my gun in the heat of summer & dripping all over everything. Switched to Lucas Xtra HD green polyurea and JD SD polyurea and have never looked back. Both mix well with lithium based greases and they don’t separate out. This has been...

    Filter wrench recommendations

When I did my initial hyd filter change on my LS none of my filter wrenches would get the old filter off. Three different strap wrenches, two different end cap wrenches didn’t work, nothing. Went to my local Harbor Freight and got their locking oil filter wrench (Vise Grip style) for about $10...

    3 point hitch won't lower 225e

A few ideas: If hyd hoses were removed from another implement (like a backhoe) in order to mount something to the 3-point, make sure hyd hoses are reconnected together properly at the back of the tractor. Make sure hitch down speed valve knob is turned all the way to the Fast position. Make sure...

Nice oil to leave on precision hand tools?

+1 for 3 in 1 oil. Been using it for years on my precision tools with zero problems. As mentioned, it’s cheap and effective.

How to Clean inside PTO Shaft

Once a year I spray brake cleaner thru it, then run a rag thru it soaked in acetone. When dry I then spray WD-40 gel lube inside the female end and coat the male shaft with polyurea grease I use on the rest of the tractor. Brush hog is my only PTO driven implement and only sees about 30 hrs a...

    Too much oil

If the only thing someone has ever changed the oil in is a push mower where you fill the oil to the top of the filler neck, I can see them making this mistake. Hopefully they didn’t do the same for the engine, front axle, etc. As the saying goes- RTFM!

LS MT235e - Rear Hydraulic Hose hookup

Yep, with the backhoe removed you simply connect the two hydraulic lines together and you’re done.

What kinda lubes do you keep in your old oil cans?

3-in-1 in one of them, 30wt oil in another. Covers most everything in general when you need a drop of oil on something.

    Feeling

+1 for this little pump from HF. Been using these for a couple of years, even gave my brother one they work so well. I lift my 5 gal can up to the step on my backhoe so the hose will reach the tank behind my seat and pump away. Empties 5 gal can in just a couple of minutes. I catch them on sale...

    Cover, LS versus NH

I bought a XL motorcycle cover for my MT225E a couple years ago for about $70 off Amazon. Covers everything from the lower front of the hood to the back of the seat. Still working good and saved me a fortune over a specific ‘tractor’ cover.

HST hydraulic filter and fluid change owner's manual inaccuracy

The vacuum trick works on an MT2 25E as well, I only lost a few ounces. The hydraulic oil in the filter I repurposed by pouring it into an empty quart sized oil container and I use it on a rag to wipe my hydraulic cylinders on my tractor, backhoe, etc after using them to prevent corrosion, as I...

Lucas X-tra heavy duty grease sold out?

I was in my JD dealer’s shop yesterday buying a Stihl edger and saw they had JD polyurea for $4.79 a tube and they had a bunch in stock. (This after I just paid $7/tube from Amazon 😡) Might want to check your local dealer.

Lucas X-tra heavy duty grease sold out?

Same here. In my area in 2020 WM had Lucas green for less than $5 a tube and had a case in stock all the time. That ended last year, so I got a case off Amazon for $6 a tube. Now all the Amazon vendors are scalping Lucas for $13+ a tube. No thanks. I found a case of JD SD polyurea for a little...

    Handy little pump

I’ve used my HF pump to fill my cars & mower with gasoline, but I’ve heard that gas will dry out the seals eventually, so after pumping gas I stick it in a can of diesel and let it run a few seconds to coat the seals with diesel fuel. So far I’ve had no problems.

Diesel Additive - which one, and how much?

I live on the Alabama Gulf coast and our temps are similar to yours. We rarely see temps below freezing, and if it’s that cold out I’m not tractoring anyway. I put STA-Bil in my fuel to keep it fresh in case I get into a dry spell where I’m not doing any tractor work for awhile, and while this...

    Another confused first timer

If you like a big brand name like New Holland, go look at them and get an idea of what you like. Then look at the manufacturers tag on the back go the machine and you’ll see it’s made by LS Mtron (LS Tractor), a well-made machine from S. Korea. Then go to your local LS dealer and buy the same...

Flow fast fuel containers and pumps

Fuel tank on my tractor is about chest high and hoisting any fuel container up that high & holding it til empty is a no-go for me. I use plastic 5-gal cans, lift it once & sit it on the backhoe floor board or seat, then use an $8 Harbor Freight two D-cell electric fuel transfer pump to fill the...

Wheel bearing grease for small trailers?

+1 for the Lucas Xtra HD green grease. While the Amazon ad says ‘Lithium’ it’s not, it’s polyurea based. I use it for everything- loader pins, bushings, boat trailer wheel bearings, etc. Doesn’t wash out, doesn’t separate in hot weather, and is reasonably priced at around $4.50 a tube on Amazon...

    Zerks and tears

In my area Wal Mart has it in individual tubes, but I buy it by the case from Amazon for about $45 for 10 tubes. Excellent grease.

    3 Point Hitch Wont Raise

When you took off the BH did you connect the hyd lines on the tractor together? Many tractors require this to complete the hyd circuit otherwise the hyd fluid hits a dead end at the unconnected lines and the pump goes into bypass mode.

    Fuel stabalizer

Been using StaBil in my gas powered equipment for about 30 yrs and have had zero carb problems. Even my little push mower that sits a year or two between uses fires right up with one or two pulls of the starter rope with StaBil in it. I also use their marine formula in my boat and their diesel...

Is this Hydraulic fluid ok to use?

When I went to my LS dealer for hyd fluid to top off after my 50 hr service he told me they use the Cam AG-20 in every machine they sell so that’s what I got. Works great for me and he sells it for $28 for a 5 gal bucket.

    New tractor advice

Have a look at the LS MT125. Well built tractor with good hydraulics for a fair price. LS builds a lot of New Holland’s machines as well, but of course then you pay for the NH name. I’ve heard and read good things about MT125’s.

    Blue Demon flux core wire?

Both the INE and Vulcan (HF) wires are made in Italy so they could be from the same manufacturer, but I cannot confirm this. I’ve used both and prefer the INE as it seems to have a little less spatter, but that’s just on my machine. I use INE exclusively and keep a roll of the Vulcan wire in...

    Fueling tractor

I second the HF battery powered pump. I just put the 5 gal can on the backhoe seat and the pump does the rest. It’ll pump 5 gal in just a couple of minutes and the pump only costs about $7 on sale, $9 if it’s not on sale. Even if you have to replace it every season or two it’s a bargain. I’ve...

Your owners manual should tell you what specifications the oil should meet, just read the label on the Traveller oil and it’ll tell you if it meets the specs. If it does then use it. What Oil does your Dealer/Shop use on Your Tractor?

My dealer uses Rotella products, so when I did my 50 hr service I used Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic. Easily found at any Wal Mart, Tractor Supply, hardware store, or auto parts place for a great price and I don’t have to wonder if it’s ‘good enough’.

    MT240HE 50hr service - Hydraulic & HST filter change - how to?

Something like a piece of pvc pipe that will fit into the hyd oil filler neck. I used a piece of steel pipe about 3/4” around, put it in the end of the hose, and duct taped around it to prevent air leaks. Stuck it in the filler neck and sealed that with duct tape too. You might get a misting of...

FEL lubrication - has to be a better way

My LS calls for NLGI-2 grease as well and you’re right, there are a LOT of choices. MT240HE 50hr service - Hydraulic & HST filter change - how to?

Did you check filter prices from your dealer? Oil filter for my MT225 was about $8 and hyd oil filter was about $25 from my dealer. At those prices I’ll stick with OEM.

Shop Vac Suction at Hydraulic Fill Port?

Worked great for my LS MT225E a few weeks ago. Left a film of hyd oil in the shop vac’s hose, but I just let it sit for a few days with the hose pointed down and a rag stuffed in the end and the hyd fluid ran out. Have used the vac a few times since and it still works great. It’s not an urban...

2019 Mahindra 1626 Shuttle Shift Engine Oil Recommendation

I’ll second the recommendation to use OEM filters, order them online in bulk if need be. I’m in Lower Alabama (on the Gulf coast) and I use Rotella T6 5w-40 full synthetic year round. Can’t beat the price at WM and if I have to fire up the tractor on a cold morning I know my engine is protected. 👍

FEL lubrication - has to be a better way

Totally agree; thought I’d never pay as much for a L&L as I did for the whole gun but the ‘adjustable’ fitting on my new gun didn’t work worth a flip so I got the L&L. Zero regrets and it fits all my recessed zerks.

    What oil are you using

My small engines (riding mower, push mower, generator) all get B&S Dino 30w and none use any oil between annual changes. The riding mower is a 2014 model with a 17.5 hp B&S used year round (warm climate) and when I’ve pulled the valve cover to do valve adjustments the inside is clean as a...

    80w-90 Front Axle Gear Lube

Are you sure it requires changing the axle oil at 50 hrs? My LS manual says check at 50, replace at 500 hrs. I had a 47 hp Branson years ago and IIRC it was 500 hrs as well for front axle oil change. May have been a little less (my memory isn’t what it used to be, lol) but it definitely wasn’t...

FEL lubrication - has to be a better way

A good quality pistol grip grease gun with flex hose and a Lock & Lube works for me. One day if my arthritis forces the issue I’ll get a battery powered gun, but until then I’m happy with what I have.

    80w-90 Front Axle Gear Lube

If it takes GL-5 then yes. My new LS needed about a quart the first time I checked it, but it calls for GL-4. Went to the auto parts store and got a bottle of Valvoline 80w90 GL-4/5 for about $7 and it’s good to go.

I’ve been using the Chicago Electric sharpener for about 6 months now and have been impressed. Does a great job and only takes a few minutes per chain. I paid about $24 USD for the sharpener with a coupon, which is hard to beat. I use an Oregon depth gauge jig and file I got off Amazon for...

Pricing ?? on BH for MT225HE

When I got my MT225E a couple months ago I paid about $5500 for the BH (installed) which was about $4k-7k less than the other brands I looked at, plus my dealer had it on the lot as opposed to most of the other brands who said it would be a 3-6 month wait to get one in. Since I generally use the...
