The eaton 11 light duty hydro in the mtd is more similar to the bdu10L. Both the eaton 11 and bdu10L are much better for pulling or doing strenuous loads than the k72. Its a good thing you have a tractor thats just for heavy jobs.

As far as hydraulics yes but they have the same capabilities. Also the cub having a stronger transmission it can do more strenuous tasks but still basically the same tasks. Also the 2500 series had a hydraulic tiller too.

Actually i just did the math on the torque of the BDU10L in the cub cadets, they actually have 626.5 footpounds of torque! No joke, all you have to do is convert 85 inch pounds into foot pounds and you get 7.1 then you multiply by the reduction ratio which is 30.6 by 7.1 and you get 217...

Cub Cadets IMO are superior to John Deeres. Unless were talking about the cheap lawn tractors then i dont really matter.

Amsoil small engine 10w30 is all you will need. As well as amsoil 20w50 hydro fluid for the tranny.

HydroGear BDU10L-225. They are equivalent to the k72 but a little stronger, also very comparable to the 15u Sundstrand.

OVER $13,000! Thats insane! You could buy a x700 series for that much money! (Or just get the cub you got with a better trans, engine, frame, the list goes on and on. And for half the price!) Thats about how much a kubota bx costs with no attachments. Deere has really gone off the deep end.

I didnt know there was that much of a price difference! There is one model in the xt2 line that has a k62 transmission.

I agree with richard, depending on how big your yard is, i would try to find a gt2521 or gt2523 for the better mower decks and steel hood. Then you have a super heavy duty garden tractor for both snow blowing and mowing and will take you much less time!

After doing further research (and reading the bdu and 15/70 series manuals and specs). You can infact use 20w50 in the bdu10l and bdu21l incase anyone wanted to use the amsoil 20w50 hydrostatic fluid.

I have not had a problem with grass build up. It’s always clean. Check every once in a while and my grass has ponds we get so much rain and I still mow.

You forgot the cub cadet xt3. Has a better tranny than the Husqvarna and is about the same as the kubota and toro 314-8. But the Deere is a bit bigger.

I think the pump seized up. Check the oil level in the pump. Also check you engine oil.

Agree but I have never seen a 1872 as weak as mine was. It whined all the time really loud and never thought that the tranny was great in it. The fluid was changed.I think that the 26 inch tires aren’t great for those transmissions because they were the same as the standard garden tractors...

The 1872 struggles when I would pull my boat trailer with it in the wet but the 2544 never stopped. That 1872 hated wet ground. The 2544 doesn’t ever get stuck. Not even if I try.

Ah the old 1872 that thing was great. But compared to the cub 2544 driving and mowing the 1872 didn’t have the torque to get through things. I wonder if it had hydro problems because the motor is great. But yeah just not as powerful. I sold it a couple years ago.

Just cut my grass with the gt 2544 for the first time in 2 months and it didn’t die while I mowed the entire lawn. It ran like a dream

So it all comes down to this what ever size tires are on it I’d use the same size ag tires. Also if you plan on mowing with it maybe invest in a second set of wheel rims. So you won’t destroy your lawn.

I did find some gum in it but not an over amount. I found ethanol corrosion on the carb body it self. All of the o rings were shot they weren’t even rubber more like plastic.and I found the intake manifold gasket wasn’t sealing good and I wonder if that caused it to die after it was heated up...

Update for y’all. Just rebuilt the carburetor and she started up with in half a second. Hasn’t started that fast in 10 years also ran at idle and didn’t want to die. It also didn’t backfire when I shut it off at low idle for the first time in probably since the tractor was new! Has strong spark...

I ordered a carb kit and I’m going to rebuild the carb in a couple of days.

Also sometimes it won’t die while mowing so it’s very confusing.

I don’t think that’s true. All commands are made in America. But the courage engines are made also in America but not the singles. Only the twins.

I have a kohler command ch 670 and in about 2 hours I have burned maybe 1.2 gallons. On the other hand my kohler magnum in 2 hours would need to refuel and it doesn’t run rich or lean.

You’ll be fine! My old cub cadet has the command engine and is 15 years old they can last with proper matinenece for about 30-35 years or about 2500-3000 hours.

So I think the reason they are weaker is because they are actually almost 1 mile per hour faster so that means they are torqued higher than the old 2500 series were slower with way more power. The 2500s were geared lower because they were made for real garden tractor work.

The old cub cadet gt 2500 series had much better transmissions. Just clearly more power I think there was a problem with the early cub xt3s
