How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

That endorsement would apply to Commercial Class C only. I’ve had those endorsements when I had a commercial License Class B for busses. They have Commercial Class C with Passenger endorsements for vans. Fairly sure on this but I could be wrong.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

I think that restriction is on for a Commercial License

    Modern Fluids in Old Tractors?

I would definitely get some professional advice from some factory mechanics. A wrong fluid or lubricant can cost you big time.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Like I said everybody has a preference. The main question was HST vs Gear drive. The Kubota dealer did tell me that the gear drive has slightly more power. Seen it on videos also to back that statement also. And the Shuttle Shift is fast. For my use I prefer a gear drive doing mostly ground...

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Shifting gears is fun and a DT has comparable top speed to an HST. What is so difficult about changing gears? I did a shitload of loader work a couple of weeks ago. I know an HST wouldn’t have saved any time. It’s just most people are too lazy to shift.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Both transmissions are good and people have their preference but I think most of these readers do not know how to drive a standard shift. When I bought my Kubota the sales woman did tell me that the DT does have more power. And seems a lot of readers think you have to slip the clutch to take...

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Put in 1st gear just engage the clutch and it will creep along with no throttle.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

With my shuttle shift I can change direction in around 2-4 seconds. The HST in 1-2 seconds. Yep I agree the HST is twice as fast.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

The Kubota will not start in gear. All systems have to be in neutral. That includes the PTO in the off position. If you want to pay $2,000 extra, lose a little power and listen to the HST whine it’s your choice. And if you can’t drive drive a standard transmission go for the HST.

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Of course you set the brake on a hill. You starting the engine normally. Not putting any strain on the starter. Your not slipping the clutch when your taking off. The 54 hp tractor needs no throttle to take off. You do the same on a 10 speed two speed axle bus. Let the clutch out and you go. As...

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

If I remember right he put the gear drive also in high range. It still had 50% more pulling power. But people are going to get what they want. I’ve driven my brothers HST and I don’t see why people find it so much easier. I hate that treadle peddle. By the time you reposition your foot you could...

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Hand throttle and the gear of your choice is all you need on a gear drive

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Good point. I’ll stick with my gear drive

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

[/MEDIA] I did the same thing with my gear drive. Easy. What is so difficult about using a clutch, all big rigs use a manual transmission so that should tell you what has more pulling power

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

Put the tractor in gear, kill the engine and she won’t move. My tractor will start up that hill in any of the lower 4 gears and you do not slip the clutch. On a HST kill the engine and put it in gear and it has no holding ability for the wheels. It’s a diesel maybe in a gas tractor you might...

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

On my Kubota MX5400DT you don’t slip the clutch ever. Let the clutch out in any gear with out giving more throttle and she goes. Driving a 10 speed bus you do not slip the clutch like you would with a gas rig. Maybe on a gas tractor you might have to but only drove diesel tractors

How does an HST compare in pulling power with the same tractor and a gear trans?

One thing I haven’t read is when you’re working on a slope the gear drive will lock your wheels when you have to stop your tractor along with a parking break. An HST does not hold you on a slope and you have to rely on solely the parking break. Really helps if your parking on the hill and...

Any owners of the new MX5400 or MX6000?

I ordered a L4701DT last May. It came in July but was the HST model. I didn’t want the HST so I reordered it. In the meantime I did more research and decided on the MX4800DT. It never arrived all year. In the meantime they quit making it so the dealer replaced it with the MX5400DT ROPS model...

Putting the R1 vs R4 debate to rest?

Another reason for the R4”s is because I want to grade along a creek which is full of rocks. I read the R1’s”s are not nearly as good for rocky surfaces susceptible to puncture. The wheels are going to be kicked out. I’ll just keep it in mind their not the best for mud. My brother has R4”s on...

Putting the R1 vs R4 debate to rest?

I’m getting a Kubota MX4800DT which has yet to be delivered. I was going to get R4”s than I kept reading the R1”s get better traction. I want to use it mostly for grading and decided to change to R1’s my dealer told me I would get 8” less tread and higher to boot. I’ll be operating on a hill...

    New MX4800 owner

Read on a Dealer site the MX with R4 tires loaded will add 400 lbs per tire. That was on Messicks. Also the MX can take up to 310 lbs per wheel with weights per the Manual.

    New MX4800 owner

I’m waiting on delivery of a MX4800DT. It’s my first tractor and I’m also on a slope in the Sierra foothills. Was thinking to change the R4’s to R1’s. I read they have more traction. Wanted pulling and pushing traction for grading. But dealer said I would lose 8” in tread width and gain height...

    L3901 vs. MX4800 Advice Please

I’ve ordered a Kubota MX4800DT which I have yet to receive. Was getting the R4 tires but then read the R1 Ag tire has better traction. Went to the dealership to change them. I live on a slight hillside and the dealer says the R1’s would give me 8” less tread and more height exactly what you...
