    Removing “grass” in sandy soil

That’s a lot of work done for sure. Family affairs are never easy.

    Removing “grass” in sandy soil

I was assuming 12 hours plus drive time and all that. From what I’ve heard talking to people $75-175 depending on the type of work.

    Removing “grass” in sandy soil

Update: Customer didn’t like my price. $1,450 to till and remove all debris, spread existing dirt pile, smooth all the dirt out for new lawn. The price seemed fair to me considering it was nearly 2.5 acres.

    Removing “grass” in sandy soil

Haha just moved down here and forgot to change my location. It’s fairly loose sand so you’re probably right. Rip it up with the box blade and then carry the material out with the rake.

    Removing “grass” in sandy soil

Hey guys. I’m looking to remove what once might have been a lawn for a customer and then prepping the area with dirt for a future lawn. 2+ acres. The lawn is mostly weeds and grasses on top of sandy soil in south Texas. I’m curious on what implement you think might work best. I have a loader...

    Easy rops brackets

If you were mounting right up against the rops that would be a good solution. I did that for a rear box on mine but I like how these give some clearance between whatver you're mounting and the tractor.

    Easy rops brackets

Hey guys, Just thought I would post a little tip I figured out over the weekend that may help someone else. Spare tire brackets like this one from Amazon work great as a mounting bracket for your rops. You can clamp it right on and use the existing bolts to mount a toolbox or string trimmer...

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

Not sure how I can reply to everyone at once but I'll try this. Never again sight unseen pricing on a job. I stopped doing that a long time ago but thought I get away with doing it this one time. 5 acres of normal overgrown field. 3 acres of 2-4" saplings and 6 foot tall grass. The pictures...

Absolutely. Luckily I already have insurance through my business

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

Good point. My main thought was to hopefully catch any wire or a rock before it destroys the cutter. I’ll have to be careful it doesn’t dig in. I haven’t discussed trash removal which I didn’t even think of. I will add that to my list.

Update: I sent the estimate of $750 to the customer and they accepted.

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

I’m going to walk the heavily overgrown areas when I arrive to check for junk so hopefully I can spot obstacle before they become a problem. I’m also going to be mowing it with my grapple on the tractor riding close to the ground to, in theory, catch any wire or trash before it becomes an issue.

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

Understood. My goal is to upgrade to larger equipment in 3-4 years but I needed to get started without putting too much money into a new side of the business. Hopefully I can upgrade sooner.

Appreciate the information. I'm aware of the need for location when posting which is why I put my location in the body of my post. Never actually noticed the location near the screen name. Information added. Thank you

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

We're at about the same for skilled and unskilled labor. Fast food places are hiring at $18. Trades are upwards of $60. I'm figuring my hourly rate based on how I price the other parts of my business but with obviously different inputs. I'm happy that I'm not reaching too far away from what the...

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

I appreciate the pricing info. Makes me feel a little more secure that I'm not daft trying to get my rate. I'm coming in with a $50/hr profit price point and a $32/hr overhead rate with a 10%/hour unforeseen amount. Edit: I'll be using a 60" rotary cutter

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

Good points. I've become very competent in other areas of my business with pricing and am spot on. This is like I'm a new business owner again. It took a lot of nightmare jobs that were priced horribly for it to get tuned in. I think I'll fair a little better now but you're right.

Bush Hogging 8 acres - pricing?

Hey guys. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this. I'm pricing out my first paid job with my tractor and rotary cutter. The customer wants 8 acres of knee/waist high fields mowed. It looks like it has been regularly maintained but not recently so there aren't any debris piles, wooded...

Giving up on my flail and shopping for a rotary cutter.

I called a few in my area and they didn't want anything to do with non-vehicle stuff. I may try and look around some more because that's a good point about maybe just missing balancing weights.

Giving up on my flail and shopping for a rotary cutter.

This is an aside to my question but I bought an old Mott flail last year from a scrapyard thinking I could fix it. I got it operational but it had such a violent vibration that I could only run it at idle or it felt like something would break. It came down to a warped cuttershaft. New ones are...

    New Massy 1835E

I don’t have experience with an actual pusher but I live in Maine and I use a 48” blower on my rider and also my 54” bucket and 60” box blade for my snow removal. We regularly get 12-18” storms and they’ve worked fine. It would depend on how much area you have to clear and what your clearances...

Thank God. I really didn't want to have to buy some specific shaft for this old flail. Thank you

    Flail mower bearings

Understood. I may end up doing this. Off topic but are PTO shafts interchangeable? I have a PTO shaft with a slip clutch on a tiller and this flail mower does not have one at all. I assumed they were interchangeable as long as the lengths match up but as I was shopping them online I kept seeing...

    Flail mower bearings

That’s a fair point and that was my initial concern. Spending that much money on a repair that will possibly fail the second it’s under a load (I’m intending on light brush cutting, not lawn work). It’s just very tempting to save a few thousand. Tacking the washer is a good idea. I may yet lean...

    Flail mower bearings

I’m hoping to try an epoxy solution first to see if that will work. But good point that bringing it into a shop might be the best option and just have them deal with it. I’ll see if the epoxy works and then go from there

    Flail mower bearings

I just saw a video where someone fixed a spinning bearing with a similar Loctite product. I agree that it should work in theory so I’ll be ordering some and trying it.

    Flail mower bearings

Hey guys, I’m rebuilding a Mott 60 flail mower I picked up for $200. I’ve priced out the parts I need and it’ll run me around $650. The bearings and housings are almost $160 per side. Ive cleaned everything up as best I can. My concern is on the cuttershaft ends. One side looks good but the...

    Adding budget rear remote

That’s perfect. Thank you. That’s what I was hoping for. That’ll be a heck of a lot cheaper for what I need. I’m sure I’ll add a full stack later on but right now a single set just for the top link I think will work fine.

    Adding budget rear remote

Hey guys. I have a 3rd function kit installed on my Massey 1526. I want to add a rear remote to control the top link. Is it possible to just run lines to the rear and have ports like that? And then connect the top link into that? I’m assuming the diverter button on the joystick would then...

    Mott 60 Flail Mower

Hey everyone, I’m rebuilding an old Mott flail I got off Craigslist. I just tore everything completely down, took an inventory of what’s broken, and cleaned everything up. I’m working on the cutter shaft now. According to the parts manual I have there are two different shafts, that is, lower...

Hey everyone. My father has had a BCS 720 Harvester with a sicklebar mower sitting in his yard outside for 5 or 6 years. I finally picked it up last week hoping I can get it back running. Ive stripped off everything I could and oiled and greased, changed out oils, cleaned the carb, etc. I have...

    Flail mower

Hey guys. I've been reading your discussions for months but just joined today. I bought a Massey Ferguson 1526 (25HP) a few weeks ago with a box blade and I'm looking at getting flail mower now. This is my first tractor and I'll be using it around my property and as an addition to my small...
