I hadn't thought to check the parts manual but after having a look it does confirm that there is no grease fitting and that is not just an ommission for my machine.

Easy solution there. You need more toys.

I did have my backhoe buried in the shed but have found it more than usefull for dragging around scrub and small trees in to burn piles. It also adds good ballast to the back. I welded a mechanical thumb on to yesterday hoping to increase its usefuleness.

I managed to repair the leak. It was just the loose hose join. By extending the boom and stick and bucket out and lowering it all below the horizontal the gap to work through opens up enough to get a couple of spanners in there. Still needed to undo the two hard line clamps to get at it but did...

Anyone know how to use one of these? I believe it is a silt scoop but the person I got it from hadn't used it and doesn't know how its used. I am hoping I can use it to maintain some dams that have not been cleaned out for a long time. Anyone got ideas as to how to use it?

Funnily enough as soon as i posted that I couldn't find anything in Australia I found this 18 inch Backhoe Excavator Thumb Attachments Weld | eBay which had always been out of stock for as long as I have been looking so I am thinking think I will go with it.

Are you saying that will fit? I have seen those and thought that would do but can't find any shipping to Australia. If I had to negotiate shipping from the US I'd have to be really sure.

Anyone got a bolt on or weld on mechanical thumb (non hydraulic) on their jinma JW-03 backhoe? I would like to know if there is one ready made to suit or wether you made one and your experiences/advice.

You are correct. Wet day here. Went and started the tractor after not using it for 2 wks. Its mild temp here. Around 11deg celcius. Gave it 30sec of glow plugs (maybe that is too much), set the throttle to completely closed and she started up straight away and idled fine.

I did it try it there but ended up putting it closer to the fuse box. Its the ground for the horn.

Tractor starts consistently now. I think the main issue was the poor electrical connections to the battery post but took me too long to figure it out. The starter always seem to spin strong but its a very fine line between starting and not starting.

I probably didn't explain it very well but I was getting the suspect readings on the actual fuse itself with the fuse removed i.e. testing across the two male fuse terminals. The fuse looked fine but it wasn't.

Looks like grounding that wire has fixed the horn. The horn did work but it was very weak. So thats a bonus.

So i jumpered between the starter positive and the power in on the keystart. The switch seemed to work immediatly. I couldnt see if the glow plugs were working because the amp meter was bypassed but i could see voltage at the glow plug post of the keystarter and i could also see the lights on...

On mine the horn is mounted with a nut and bolt in the middle of the upper and lower fuse block screws on to the back of the fuse block mount. Now that i look at it, its obvious that it is the only place that it can go. Thats a good schematic.

The schematic indicates ground but i was hoping someone could show me where it is ground. The wire is only about 6 inches long so it has to be around the area shown on my photo right above the engine label on the rocker cover. Is it the rocker cover nut maybe?
