Interesting. The earlier 1723 & 1725 (and probably all earlier GC's) have 18x8.50-10 & 26x12.0-12 tires. What's on the rear of the new ones? BTW, all this ratio stuff is only really important if using 4-wheel drive, although I suppose it could have a minor effect if using a mid-mount mower.

Those machines are descendants of the GC 1723E and GC 1725M and are good machines. There is a ratio in the gearing so that the front tires want to travel ever so slightly faster than the rears. Duh. This is right, but this is wrong, and you shouldn't operate it that way! You should always engage either the mid or rear PTO gear first and then the PTO clutch. I'm sure you are doing this. So, the correct answer is that the gears are not always turning.

Thanks for the photos. The one on the left looks like a classic high-cycle fatigue failure: see all the striations. The one on the right looks more like a massive impact failure, but I am not sure. And I am not sure what is causing this but am curious to learn!

It would be great if you could take and post some good closeup photos of the broken surface of the bolts, i.e. the actual fracture surface. Might give us a better clue as to what sort of failure it is. Right now, it is not looking like a shear failure.

If you decide to stay, I would highly recommend that you use spray foam insulation between the studs (relatively easy with the siding off), but you also need it up in the attic (not so easy).

As far as I know, the Massey Ferguson 1 GC23 is the latest version of the GC 1723E (or EB with backhoe). There is a l-o-n-g thread about this series: What have you done with/to your GC Series 2300, 2400, 1700 Tractor TODAY I am not sure exactly what is different than last year's model.

The Massey Ferguson GC series uses "light alloy" transaxle housings. Not sure if they are aluminum or some sort of pot metal, but more likely aluminum in my opinion.

If that's the case, perhaps moving the steps closer to the 6x6's would make the whole job easier and more esthetic?

I agree that the seatbelt is a necessary safety feature, and that jumping is a no-no! But it is still a good idea to pull your body away from the "down side".

Please use that extra second to grab both arms around the upright arm on the other side of the ROPS; and pull your feet over too. You do not want your arms or legs or body trapped between the ROPS or the tractor and the ground.

The stock adjustable top link on my 2022 GC 1723EB is about 14-1/2" long at its shortest to maybe 22" at its longest.

I tried those too Dave, and they work great with a fairly level implement. But I had a problem with them while using my back blade and top-n-tilt at a large angle. The reason is that the stabilizers try to follow the angled lower 3-point arms and then the other end at the "plate" gets twisted...

I miss Windows XP, especially the search doggie.

I have an idea if @rScotty's fix #2 doesn't work. Almost certainly the cap on that spool is a soft alloy, not steel. If so, over time, the balls could easily have worn away the "sharp edge" on the detent groove. Perhaps all you need is a new cap.

I'd suggest that you disconnect both the spring and the cable and try the tractor with the lever in both engaged (forward I think) and disengaged position. If that makes no difference, perhaps something is busted inside like the shift fork. :(

I'm not sure what you are referring to. If by SCV you mean solenoid control valve, there are none in the Massey Ferguson OEM system. Please explain.

They were, they were just too small, and I've redrawn them. Perhaps they were blurred in the picture which was just a screenshot of my CAD file; I have now inserted a screenshot of the pdf file. You can also open the pdf file and zoom in on it.

Lou, I have a 2022 M-F GC 1723EB and I bought the manual for that; I think it covers both the 1723 & 1725 models. Mine too had a blank page for the wiring diagram, but the dealer printed it off for me. You could try that with your dealer, or I can scan mine and post it here later. Dick P.S...

Very satisfied with my Nova Voyager. So easy to change speeds and wonderful for tapping.
