Massey Ferguson 2860e
I have a 2860e with a FEL. I would like to add rear remotes which it does not have. Any suggestions about the process and thoughts on the cost? Thank you!

I am not familiar with your machine.

Try searching using “MF 2860e rear remote.” You will find several options including prices. The installation instructions should also be available. You might have to request the instructions from the supplier via phone call or email.

Good luck!

I have the much smaller Massey Ferguson GC 1723EB, but they are probably plumbed similarly. Here is a thread about that plumbing: How Massey Ferguson GC 1723 & 1725 hydraulics are plumbed

If yours is similar, and it is open-centered, you need to tap into the "power beyond" line from the joystick/FEL valve to either the backhoe (if equipped) or to the 3-point control valve with a "multi-spool open center valve equipped with power beyond". In other words, this new valve will be in series with the others. You will also need to add an additional return/drain line back to the tank; this can be tee'd into an existing line.

If you have a closed center system, that is above my pay grade, but I think the new valve would be plumbed in parallel rather than in series, and no power beyond capability is required. (Many valves can be converted open to closed by changing some fittings/plugs.)

I do not recommend a Summit valve; been there ...

For adding a two spool remote I would actually recommend a two spool loader valve with float. With the cable operation it would give you lots of leeway in mounting the actual valve. Many of those are setup with or available with the power beyond port so 3 hoses and mounting the joystick and your good.

OP stated he had a FEL which likely has float capability.

In my opinion, float capability on rear remotes serves very limited (if any) usefull purpose.

I find float very useful at times. Many towed implements can use float while being used. I like float on my back blade tilt function for snow removal or pushing backwards to slick up graded areas. My offset flail mower works better with float. Depending on which hydraulic toplink I'm using float is nice at times for brush hogs and such. Many planters and ground powered implements such as planters and grain drills work much better with float. Our hydraulic foldup disk and tedders work much better with float.

Adding to all of that, float is also nice with single acting cylinders, like a dump trailer. You don't have to dead head the pump while lowering the bed.

I forgot that one and shouldn't have as we have trailer on the farm that are on single acting cylinders.
Also we like to use it when stopping a hydraulic motor that has any inertia load on it, allowing the motor to slow down rather then slamming to a stop.
