Unplug your dynamo and use a voltmeter turned to ac voltage and touch the leads to the two wires coming off your dynamo. Rpms will effect output, could be anywhere from 15 to 30 ac volts depending on rpm. That should tell you whether your dynamo is good or not. Dynamos give very little trouble...

I believe the little black item is a vent canister for the brake housing. I think if you trace the hoses that is where they will go. I also believe they do not vent the transmission cavity. I also believe the return adapter that Hoye used to sell was made to screw into the dip stick hole.

Looks good. If there was some way to put a 90 degree ell in your adapter to force the flow down it would probably eliminate fluid coming out of the vent. Or maybe a baffle in there to force the flow downward. Just talking. :D

Valve cover gasket has nothing to do with blow by or starting, only seals oil from running out. Any blow by is coming from crankcase and that is the smoke you are seeing when valve cover is off.

Post #17 in this thread is showing a page out of the I & T manual covering the YM240. Paragraph 252 is showing on the attachment in post #17. My old 2002D had a completely different setup, however, one of the relief valves does use the same part number shims.

It is not inside the line. It was installed in the divider block, worked it's way loose, but still inside the divider block and allowing flow to go straight to the 3 point.

Both rear wheels will spin if differential lock is pressed. If not, wheel with least resistance will spin. Front wheels will both spin if on equal traction, if not, the one with least resistance will.

If engine is not turning over then that is the number 1 issue. As Carey said, make sure the starter is good and if so your engine must be locked up. Probably hard to do but you could try turning the engine with a socket and ratchet. I am thinking it is a 46mm socket size.

The 2000 and 226 both use the same sensor. The 226 manual states the red light comes on at 230F so according to Yanmar 230F at that location is to hot. Both tractor use a 13# radiator cap.

I can tell you Torque should be 29-33 ft lbs. No mention in repair manual of bolt size. Part number is 6697072.

I would try a rosebud torch tip and try to straighten it. You might need to take it to a welding shop if you are not equipped.

Internal, but no idea how you access it.

#2 is your differential lock. you sometimes have to be moving for the pedal to align cogs. It should automatically come up when taking your foot off. However, it will sometimes stay engaged until binding of gears is relaxed. Differential lock and 4 wheel drive are two separate components.

You probably noticed the parts manual also shows an inner strainer (#50) that feeds the powershift pump. I am not sure just how much access one has to that.

You will get the correct micron filter if you order from Hoye. If you have not cleaned the suction screen you need too. Your suction strainer is behind a 3 bolt flange right under the pto shaft.

Without taking it apart or at least seeing how much movement you may have in bearings it would be hard to know just what to order. Just my opinion.

The gears in these old transmissions have to be lined up in order to change ranges. Sometimes you have to let out on the clutch a tad to line cogs up. However, if this is something new, then maybe somethng else.

I have changed the ring and pinion on an FX24D and a YM1720D for exactly the reason you stated.

I believe the mower inertia will push your 2310 whether in or out of gear. The 2310 does not have the internal over run clutch.

I would suggest taking the inspection cover off right above the injection pump, work the throttle and see if the rack is moving on the pump. If not give the pump a few gentle taps, that's been known to free them up after a long set. No warranties on anything, just something you might try.

I plead ignorance. Not sure what the steering knuckle is. Parts manual uses "case" when describing the gear casings. Can you give an old man another hint? :confused:

Sounds to me like your system might be over pressuring. With the new key installed does it sound like your engine is loading until the time the 3 point quits working? Do you have a loader? Is your stop valve open?

I suppose a cracked head, however, I would say large percentage would lean toward head gasket. Either way, the head has to come off. Once again, on my part, long distance diagnosis on my part is to be taken as opinion only and not fact.

I am not declaring your head gasket is bad so don't move to fast on my thoughts. Will go on to say your temperature should not be creeping up as you stated in post #11. Crank it with the cap off when cold and see if you have a constant stream of bubbles in the radiator.

Bubbling/boiling is not normal. Sure sounds like a leaking head gasket. There is lot's of pressure in the cylinders when she's running. Way more than the 16 lbs you tested.
