I'm having a hard time removing the headlight swith.

I know there must be a trick but I can't seem to figure it out.

Same switch on my YM186D, I can't get the knob off the shaft and for some reason there's no nut on the switch to hold it in the dash. I loosened the set screw in the knob, that's not the problem. I'm thinking I will have to yank the guts out of the switch to remove and replace it. On the other hand the YM240 (YM2000) switch removed easily when I tried that long ago.

Is your problem removing the knob, or the nut that prevents the switch from falling into the dash?

Can figure out how to remove the pull knob.

I'm the process of repairing/rewiring my tractor as needed. I don't know if the switch is good or bad but would like to remove it so I can get a better look at it if nothing else. I also need to know how to remove if it's faulty.

Disconnect the battery!

Loosen the tiny set screw in the side of the lights knob, slide the knob off its shaft. Then unscrew the nut around where the switch housing protrudes through the dash.

How tiny is the set screw??
I looked for one and couldn't find it.
I'll look closer tomorrow.

When I was at the farm this weekend and was looking at my tractor the knob caught my eye. I think I remember seeing a roll pin pinning the knob to the shafy, but I didn't look close up to it. I think I was just walking up to it and shutting it down as I looked over. But I beleive it was a rill pin. It was small, maybe 2mm in diameter?

I tried to get the knob off my YM186D's light switch last weekend and it takes a tiny screwdriver to loosen the set screw. I had to get out this set of miniature screwdrivers, nothing else was small enough. I'm pretty sure the YM240 is made the same, I had it off once when I initially set up that tractor after I bought it.

The black headlight knob unscrews in a counter clockwise direction. It's threaded.

Followup, seven years later:

I never did get that knob off. Its just one more minor thing to ignore.

This is how you do it with about 20 pixs to show . . .

Drill the old switch out. No much to it! The YM2000 has a metal dash and the old switch is Garbage anyway. Old thread which I do recall. Mine has been replaced on the Yanmar. The light switch is on the front of my Panel. Blk./Red Rectangle.
