It’s my understanding that the WHITE WIRE gets its power (hi amps) from the starter while the engine is turning..(cranking) Then it’s switched to lower amps to the RED WIRE.

U have to make sure that fuel is getting TO THE PUMP INLET.. THE DPA pump has 1 rotating member that feeds all the cylinders, so it’s not very common for it to feed 1 & 2 and not the 3rd one.. But if u had a low volume of fuel TO the pump, that could account for that problem.. Have u loosened...

If it is indeed a PFR pump and u have to remove it for repair, don’t waste your time trying to time it.. it’s timed with shims under the pump base.. the shims will either stick to the bottom of the pump or to its mounting base.

It’s a process of elimination.. What’s your experience with building injection pumps.?? U HAVE TO MAKE SURE it’s in working order before reinstalling, otherwise it’s very possible that you’ll have the same outcome..

Supply pump.?? Does it do that after using it.. or does it start right up.?? If I has the no-start condition first thing and then it’s fine thru out the day, I would say supply pump.

To answer your question, Yes, u can run a new fused switch, seeing it’s a 2 wire solenoid..

Have u read this entire thread..?? The fellas did a good job of explaining the process.. There is a cut out in the engine block below the pumps mounting flange that will allow the rack pin to pass and the pump to come out.. But u hafta make sure u hit it…& DO NOT PRY ON THE PUMP.. it will slide...

If it’s a 1 or 2 wire solenoid, yes u can jump it.. If it’s a 3 wire solenoid NO don’t try..

I can handle the pump rebuild for u.. no problem.. It sounds like the pumping plungers are in bad shape, and when u added a new injector, the pressure is probably a couple hundred psi more than your old ones and that’s why it’s not pumping. Not enough pressure to open the injector.

If ur temp gun is showing only 1 cyl is getting fuel into the engine and burning correctly, I’d say it’s time to do the other 2.?? That’s to say if the correct reading is coming from the one u replaced.. Besides, it’s the least expensive option..(inj pump)

If u guys are having problems with your primer bulb, go to your local Yamaha Marine Center on ur way home and get a Yamaha primer bulb.. BEST on the market..

It’s been my experience that when testing g plugs with a battery charger, they need to be cherry red within 10 seconds..

Got pic of everything BUT the inj pump.. lol I can decipher it by looking at the injectors tho.. 8 psi will make it run good.. If u T into the inj pump inlet, that’ll give u an accurate reading.

Fuel pressure TO the inj pump depends on which pump or pumps u have.. If it’s easier, just post a pic.

It’s possible that the supply pump is weak and won’t deliver enough fuel at WOT. It’ll be just fine at low idle and part throttle but at hi idle it would bog.. In a machine that works in “dirt” all its life, change the fuel filters 2x a year.. it’s GOOD insurance..& cheap.!!

U definitely have to make sure that fuel is making it TO the injection pump inlet.. There is a bleed screw by the nameplate on the pump.. Its a double screw, with a 5/16 wrench needed .. U loosen the screw and spin the engine.. fuel should shoot out of the bleed screw with no bubbles.. Once u...

There’s a thin copper gskt called the delivery valve gasket AND an oring called the holder oring.. U might get away with just TORQUING THE HOLDER TO 35 ftlbs.. good luck

It’s completely dependent on if you timed it properly before removing the pump.. If u have a “lock timing” pump.. the new one should come back locked in time with #1 cyl.. If u question the pump OR your work, u can look inside the gear taper for the mark left behind by the removed pump...

It’s possible for 1 cyl in the inj pump to be stuck.. But if ur not getting equal amounts of fuel from the other 2, u might have a fuel SUPPLY issue TO THE INJ PUMP.?? Are u trying to start it with the throttle wide open.?? U need to.. If its not getting any better, it’s probably time to pull...

Yes, it’s supposed to move freely.. (Transfer pump piston) Be sure to put the regulator plug, short side down.. (it just sits on the regulator sleeve)

That’s easy enough to check.. just remove the nut and washer and SEE IF it’s aligned.. It’s more likely the throttle lever isn’t aligned with the shaft.. happens all the time. Good luck

The p# is on the nozzle.. Then use Google.. Do u know what the nozzle nut torque is.?? Do u have a pop tester.?? Do u know what the opening pressure is.??

Smooth side to the nozzle.. U took the time to take it out of the engine, clean it up, take it apart, buy new gaskets and NOT replace the nozzle.?!! Nozzles are like spark plugs.. to find the GOOD ONE, throw them in a bucket of water, the good ones will float.. In other words, u took all that...

On the bottom of the inj pump is a wire.. that wire goes up to a temp switch on the manifold.. Unplug it either from the inj pump or the manifold & replace the starter fuse.. It should start now.

If u have any rubber fuel lines anywhere from the tank TO the inj pump, u can add a low pressure supply pump.. Anything 10 psi and lower might help.

If it’s air bound or not getting enough fuel, the throttle will act like that.. Try breaking the fuel line loose at the pump, that will get the air out from the filter to the pump.. Then loosen the lines at the injectors.. once they start squirting, tighten them up.

Were the orings (6) u bought black or red.??

Did u notice the spring and shim.?? The plastic piece IS split..

R u saying u only removed the top section of the injector.??!! And the bottom half is still screwed in the engine.?? I sure hope that’s not the case.. Regardless, the bottom half should be removed, the 2 halves torqued back together and the bottom gasket changed before torquing THE ASSEMBLY back...

That is for production use, it’s not an assembly part. Toss it in the trash and don’t look back.. Torque the bottom nut to 50-55 ftlbs..

The solenoid on the side of the inj pump is just a cold start solenoid, it just advances or retards the timing for easier starting. The solenoid by the lines is the shut off solenoid, some are powered (12v) to run and some are powered to shut off..

Do u know the backwoods way of checking if the valves are seating.?? Just take a spray can of brake cleaner and spray it on the valves on the rocker arm side, while the head is on it’s side.. If the valves aren’t seating, the b/c will leak on thru the combustion side…(around the valves)

That’s an easy one.. If u didn’t shut the fuel off at the petcock under the tank, GRAVITY took control and made it past the seals on the drive shaft in the inj pump and filled the oil pan with fuel. You could also have a grooved “pilot tube” in the front of the inj pump where the rubber seals...

Is there an electric cord coming from the bottom of the injection pump.?? It’s a CSD, cold start device. It should run up to a connection at the thermostat neck.. UNPLUG IT & try it out for normal operation..

I use the cruise CONSTANTLY.. it’s the absolute 3rd thing I do when I get in my truck.. 1) start the engine. 2) adjust the radio. 3) turn on the cruise.. It’s been so long since I’ve HAD TO use the accelerator, I don’t know if the “memory muscle” in my foot even knows how..?? Lol

The “shut off” solenoid could definitely cause your problem.. Remove the push on wire connector and unscrew the solenoid.. Correct.. neither inj pumps that are for that engine, Delphi DP200 (8920) or the VE pumps have a bleeder screw.. so if u can get to the injectors, loosen the nut AT THE INJECTORS just a turn or 2 and crank the engine until fuel squirts out with no air bubbles and tighten.. Good luck and Happy...

U can use a pick w a small 90* and go they the center of the cup and lift it out.. U may have to scrape some carbon from around the edges.. If u have an air compressor, a good blast of air works too… but will make a mess unless u cover the area with a shop towel.. I can do the injectors for u..

There should be a copper gasket around the tip. U can buy them as a set, the washers and cup.. It could be the spray pattern of the injectors isn’t to spec and the fuel isn’t getting a clean burn.??

U don’t specify a model.. If it’s a diesel, find the shut off solenoid and the wire that powers it.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A RETURN.. The timing is set to “0”.. Set the pump timing line to 0* on the block., Did u put the top oring UP IN THE FILTER HEAD.. It looks like it goes ON THE FILTER, BUT IT DOESNT GO THERE.. It goes up in a groove in the filter head.. If all else fails, plumb the side fuel...

Just a word to the wise.. Keep a regular fuel filter schedule.. u can’t buy hard parts for those inj pumps.. (Pumping plungers or delivery valves) U have to buy a complete inj pump.. NOT CHEAP.. the part #’s are captured by the Oem.

If the solenoid unscrews, remove it but leave it hooked up incase the ecm reads its position.. I’ve never seen a 5 wire s/o solenoid.. I’m wondering if it’s not a “rack actuator” that varies the voltage to move the fueling mechanism to control fuel/rpm.??

Did u get the injectors tested today.?? What was the outcome.?

Leave them loose until fuel squirts out and tighten.. Just because it works on the bench, doesn’t mean it works in the engine.!! I always leave it out when diagnosing a no start problem.. Don’t u have glow plugs.??

Does your shut off solenoid work.?? It’s screwed into the LEFT SIDE of the inj pump housing.. should have 1 wire to it.. Leave the steel lines from the inj pump loose AT THE INJECTORS while cranking the engine to bleed the air out.. U should be able to HEAR the solenoid clicking on and off..

Take it apart and order what u need.. If u have a tapered shaft with a 7/8” nut, it can be 1 or 2.. If u have a drive hub w an Allan screw in the center and 3 -1/2” bolts holding the drive gear to the pump.. there’s only 1 seal.. If u have one that takes 2 seals, the p# is 5393-252R.. And the...

The hst bhas a “cold start solenoid”.. towards the bottom of the pump..it’s not a shut off solenoid.. Make sure you have fuel at the inlet of the inj pump.. Then Loosen the lines AT THE INJECTORS and crank the engine until it starts to squirt fuel at the loosened lines and tighten..
