    I was thinking that maneuver was not thought out real well, but then i don't go around yanking huge stumpage off of bridge pylons, so maybe there was a reason they did what they did.

    Maybe the beam truck should have had pilot vehicles? Make sure they are cleared off the track. There's a road my wife and i frequent, where a train crossing is close to a traffic light, i'm always surprised at the number of people that will wait on the tracks, for the light to change, and...

    It might seem kinda weird, but at night, when going to sleep, i also like the sound of engine going under load. Not sure why, but also a distance train whistle does the same.

    Nah, train use will go up and as for solar panels on the tracks, not a bad idea for dual use of the space.

    Speaking of air museums, there a very nice one at Boeing field called, Museum of Flight. It's huge, has a Bell UH-1H Iroquois, SR-71 a countless Boeing stuff, Concorde. If you are anywhere near Seattle, it a must see. Then south in Oregon, Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville...

    All true, but i imagine there was a time before diesel locomotives were even thought of, that the steam locomotives had a live time based on similar deciding factors, i.e. bottom line, but not because a diesel locomotive was a viable alternative. For instance, could they run a year before...

    Pretty neat. I like the sounds and looks of steam engines. Not a fan of sitting in the smoke though.
