I agree, the tranny service is necessary. Also have them look at the tranny closely. The Ford Torque Shift is actually a 6 speed tranny that only uses 5 gears at a time. It does a different shift sequence if cold, like Alaska cold, and when in tow haul mode. Maybe something is wrong with the electronics.

As for the tranny filters, there are 2. One is external outside the tranny mounted up under the right head light between the bumper and rad support. The other is internal as normal.

One other thing that a few hinted at was the EGR valve. I have a 2004 6.0 4x4 F-250 and I believe it has a EGR valve but I have heard the 2005 and later trucks do not. I have heard there is a delete for the 2003 -2004 6.0 trucks because it caused some issues.

I also have a 2006 6.0 4x4 F-350 and believe it does not have a EGR valve but again not sure. Both trucks have been flawless except for the 06 needed a new dash cluster because of a faulty fuel gauge. Anyway look into the EGR valve and the delete if possible.

I bumped your thread "over there". :D

In regards to the EGR valve, if you drive the truck like you stole it, the EGR valve shouldn't be an issue. My Brother in law's wife drove his truck while he was at work. I ended up buying it from them. When I got it, the check engine light kept coming on. The code said the EGR valve was sticking. When I was in the Army, I was a diesel mechanic. I used to tell the howitzer drivers to drive their guns like they stole it. We never had problems like the other artillery batterys had. When I bought my BiL's truck, I drove it like I stole it. Hard acceleration (not all the time), long drives, and got the engine up to operating temps and kept it there. After a few months, the engine stopped throwing the EGR code. It now has around 240,000 miles on the truck and engine. It doesn't leak, it doesn't tell me to check the engine, and it purrs like a tiger.

Yeah, that seems to be true. Since I admit that, for the most part, I drive like a grandma, my EGR valve went missing. Since I couldn't locate it, I put a slug replacement in where it was. It doesn't get stuck and I can drive however I want. Still, sometimes it's fun to tune it to "full race" with my SCT tuner and surprise a few people. :D

I don't tear aound like a dragster or anything.. but the truck does get a good workout. it makes some multi-thousand red eye trips every now and then.. like 40hr round trips to texas with no stops other than food/fuel.. or 18 hr round trips to lousiana.. etc.. etc.

Must be the reason I have good luck with both my 6.0's, a 04 and a 06. We drive them like we stole them. I have Quadzilla chips on both for about 160 extra RWHP plus different intakes. When I drive for daily use I leave it in the 160 setting but when I tow I tune it down to 80 RWHP extra and she does just fine. Have towed upto 25,000# with it no problems but the normal load is 15,600# and around 12,000#.

I usually only tow 7-10K.. but have done that on 1200-2300m round trips .. etc.

she has all the power I need at factory levels.. I used to have a superchips tune on her.. but she went in for afactory recall service and the ecu was replaced.. :(.. and now the superchips tuner see's it as a different machine :( :( so now I just have an expensive 500$ engine anylizer....

Soundguy, I feel I should apologize for the way the guys on the other site treated you. If I had known you were going to be treated in any way other than professionally, I wouldn't have recommended that site to you.

There are a handful of true technicians and mechanics there who will help others at the drop of a hat. However, the kiddies tend to get the posters before the techs can look at the posts. It really pisses me off that people post a reply that has nothing to do with the problem.
