A different thread but relevant. Still can't find the one I was thinking of but this one is just as good. Thanks.
Really think I'll get all my ducks in a row before starting though. Running out of time and soon I'll just have to live with it for a few months. Looks like my issue though looking at the fluid trail, bummer. May check the torque to start off with and confirm that. Liked the Lucas additive idea also if it won't cause any issues down the road.
Confusion and wisdom comes with age :). You a contractor? I like your tag line:thumbsup:.
I'll be on the Island at the end of the month I think with my brothers building a horse corral. The rain the last few weeks is pissing me off, trying to finish repairing a trailer and mini excavators thumb set up. Almost done but now I've got to bring it inside to paint.

Ok; I had the same signs of a leaking engine/bellhousing. Do yourself a favor; remove the shrouds below steering wheel ( black two piece housing with two bolts holding halves together and a total of 4 bolts on firewall- two on each side) and check your power steering (hydaulic) valve. Mine was leaking there and made it look like a leaking internal seal.

I'll do that! started working on it today.. replacing broken grease fittings and such. Start work again so I won't be able to look at it for a few days but I'll post how that went.
Thanks.

Well, has a chance today to pull the firewall and to my dissapointment, no visible leak. :(
Did pick up some lucas hydraulic seal/conditioner that I'm going to try out first since the leak is so small (for now) I'll be putting that in after my new lines arive. I'll post what happens.

Sorry problem was not in steering valve; but at least you got to do a look-see at that area!.

Was hoping but... :) Giving more time to get to know the machine better. Getting rust off and fixing sketchy and missing bolts. Since I pulled that cover off, I also fixed the lights. Thing will look and run like new before I'm done. LOL

I have the same tractor, but mine is a 2005 model year. I added hyd fluid and now I have a leak same spot. I think I may have overfilled the hyd reservoir. The local dealer said about $3000.00 to replace the seal. I thought I would live with a small leak before I paid that amount.

I was going to do it myself and save a bunch. I was running it last night and the funny thing is no more drip. It's a miracle :) Still going to add the sealer to it though. Just picked up my new lines so if the wife lets me, I'll be done (for now) this weekend and can report back after a few weeks if the Lucas worked or not or if it created any other issues.
You guys must all live in cheaper parts of the country! The dealer here was a lot higher than that!

An update.
i've put 30 hours on the thing since changing all the fluids and fixing lines etc. I added the Lucas at the time of the change. Don't know if I've run it long enough or not but the pump sounds better and the leak is more miss that hit anymore. If I relieve the pressure when it's parked there seems to be none at all. When it does, very, very little. Pretty much shows on the case but not the ground.
One thing to note though, my HST filter had blown it's guts so that may have been part of the problem. I've pulled off the new one twice and it's been fine so far. Pain to keep checking that as I need to clean it up pretty good so no dirt can get in... and it's been in the muck every time out. :)

That is a new one to me. Could it be the filter or fluid change done by the previous owner was wrong? You still have the old filter? I've changed a ton of filters in my life and never had one self destruct.
Glad the leak is now a dribble. I've got a few dust beards around some of my fittings but if it ain't tracking down all over everything, it gets cleaned up perodically.
Did you get your brothers' corral built?
