Actually, modern 12 gauge guns with modern magnum loads match the 10 gauge "legacy" shells. Running a couple of boxes of turkey loads through a pump 12 gauge will, as they say, leave a mark.

A friend used a Browning pump with 3 1/2 inch magnum #4 buck for coyote hunting. One day he was telling about taking it to a trap shoot; after the first round he put it back in his truck and borrowed a gun for the rest of the day.

Browning lists a 10 gauge semiauto in their new catalog along with a 10 gauge pump. But that semiauto action would take away some of that fierce recoil. I've had a Browning BAR for many years in .338 Winchester Magnum calibre and it is much nicer to shoot than a bolt action would be.

been there done that, had the h/r 10ga single shot, had the double 10, Ithaca an updated Rem 10 they bought out the Ithaca - so one day before turkey season, we took all 3 10s, an 870 3.5 in mag, a Mossberg 3.5 12 pump and a beretta 12 3.5 and my trusty 870 3inch that I got as a kid.

Yes you are right at 35 - 45 - 55 I had more pellets in the head of a turkey target with the 3" rem 870 barrel with choke than any of the combinations we tried -

The beretta was next best then the 870 3.5 the moss12 and 10s were all fairly close for the rest

we shot 5 and 6 sized shot because 4 is the largest here and 10 ga the largest allowed here legally -

I have taken geese as far as my hunting buddies with their 10s however with more shot flying im sure the 10s might have a better chance of bringing down a coyote or more birds on a flock shoot -

I don't like the punishment of a 10 for hunting but they have their value - the shell costs continue to climb so that is also a deterrent - we use 00 buck for coyote and intruders around here ;-)

00 buck is no longer being used by law enforcement here - they now have to use bean bags, plastic rounds or slugs - 00 buck is too dangerous as it might take out an innocent bystander

Exactly. Those little stick like 10 gauge single barrels are killers. Fire it once and trade it off. They don't weigh near enough to soak up any recoil. You sure better have a good recoil pad on them.

Years ago, I saw a guy down in PA that had a 10 Gauge Pistol! I don't even remember if it was one or two bbls. It was an antigue and I wanted it in the worst way. Perfect weapon to answer the door with in the middle of the night.

mr fuddy......so what exactly is your intent with this 10ga? that might help unless you are not considering any other options and just want one cause you want one?

if you want something big and intimidation I prefer a cannon or I do have a tennis ball launcher and I am sure someone on here has a pumpkin chucker or is working on one because it is that time of year again!!!!!

the tennis ball launcher I made is similar to a tater gun, if you don't know what that is google it - my barrel is sized for tennis balls - I have used it for many things including training retrievers
