10 ga. Shotgun

A friend put a tennis ball through an old school (CRT) style TV with an air cannon. So, hardly something to sneeze at!

Ha! Back in the '50s our local cafe had one of those suspended with chain over their pie case. It looked a lot like these and one man probably couldn't lift it, much less aim it, due to the weight distribution. My dad told me it was a novelty item.

I think they were called punt guns, because they were used off of the bow of a boat called a punt. They rested the barrel in what looked like an oar lock and shot waterfowl from this boat. The gun as you noted was never intended to be carried in the usual sense. We would probably need to look this up to confirm, but it is what I remember.

My grandfather had them set up in fan array on the front of a punt, probably about 10 of them, when something took off from the water you just fired the barrel that was pointing in the right direction.
From memory they were a fixed elevation and only one trigger, you cocked the barrel you needed and fired, the shooter layed on the floor waiting for birds to rise.
I think this set up was common in rural England until the late 50's and were sold as a fixed array.

Edit. James and I must have been responding at the same time.

mr fuddy......so what exactly is your intent with this 10ga? that might help unless you are not considering any other options and just want one cause you want one?

if you want something big and intimidation I prefer a cannon or I do have a tennis ball launcher and I am sure someone on here has a pumpkin chucker or is working on one because it is that time of year again!!!!!

the tennis ball launcher I made is similar to a tater gun, if you don't know what that is google it - my barrel is sized for tennis balls - I have used it for many things including training retrievers
I want to shoot turkeys and not have to pluck feathers.
Seriously though I had one years ago, my house got broken into and it was stolen.
Guys were caught, sent to prison, I never recovered my stuff.
Two things I miss, that 10ga. and my Grandads Hallicrafters shortwave radio also stolen.
My wife and I are sentimental fools I guess!

Should have had cameras!

Sorry, kidding. Some people think that is the answer to that kind of thing.

Some cop likely has a nice shot gun and Halicrafters radio though!

Embarrassing but true story. I was 18, Grandad gave my brother a musket...then gave me an old 12ga.he had. I took it to the shop at home, sawed off the stock and barrel. I shot it once, that was enough.
One night I hear a car coming up our long country driveway...so I grab it, run outside.
Turned out to be a friend of mine...so I toss it in the seat, sit down. He tells me his clutch is slipping, so he drives up the road a bit and around a tractor sales place.
All at once two deputies appear! Place had had break ins...I explained friend was demonstrating clutch slipping when one spied the gun.
Off to jail I go...ATF guy shows up...gun was about 6" too short. I'm faced with two felony counts...40 years!
I call Dad at now 3am. Parents thought I was in bed. You can only imagine the ride home! Dad hires a lawyer, judge after I explained understood at 18 I didn't know laws about gun length.
That gun ended up they told me shreaded or in a museum in D.C. I'll never know.

I was given a Civil War era musket with bayonet, by a friend of the family. This was about 1951; we lived in Missouri. We moved soon after, and Dad;s company, wanted him here right away, so they hired a company to pack all of our belongings and bring them back to Oklahoma. and in the meantime, some sob broke into our house, vandalized the kitchen and stole my gun. I was, pizzed to say the least.
