WOW! I only pay $45 for 1-year on my lexus using Amsoil...

Look on the bright side, you get a smile from them for $36 plus tax.

Oh, why not look in the manual and see what the drains are. I bet they are not 3K nor even close!

Who pays $36.00 for an Oil Change?

$12.95 for one at the Ford Dealership here.

And I know a lot of people who have had their oil and oil filter changed without incident.
You can include me as one of the many. I drive all my vehicles over 150,000 miles and never had oil related problems.
Been using 10 minute oil change for as long as they have been around.

2) did not install oil filter correctly )

Add stripped plug threads and left the filler cap on the air cleaner = hood dent.

OK guys,

I was looking for an OK to use these places but now I have to qualify everything in my defense.

Manual probably says 7500 between changes.

It's been 5700 on current oil.

I'm taking the kids to Disney World. The visit/reservations start tomorrow.
But, everyone in the family (except myself) came down with some head (sinus/ear) infection and my daughter is just getting over pneumonia.
Wife says the trip will go on!!! (my attempts at cancelling were NOT WELL RECEIVED).
Well, with all the sinus and ear stuff in particular, I can't put the family on a plane due to pressure. I just cancelled the flight and loaded the van. To get there tomorrow, I'll need to drive tonight and do about 16 hours driving. It's a little over 1000 miles each way.

I'll do a full service on return but really want/need the oil changed before I leave.

Yep, I know people who change their own oil who have done this, too. I also know experienced mechanics who were distracted at the wrong time and forgot to check for the old oil filter gasket resulting in an oil leak.

(Not just replying to rdln)

People who work at quick oil change places (as well as any other business) nor the people who patronize these places, should not be demeaned simply as a group of people. To do this implies that no one who works at these places takes pride in what they do nor cares about customer service. I change my own oil and antifreeze because I have the time and the place to do this. I also have places where I can safely dispose of the old oil filter, the used oil and anti-freeze. Many people either do not or do not want the bother. I've seen all types of vehicles at quick oil change places, from ancient beaters to high end luxury cars. What, these people don't care about their vehicles or don't know any better? To assume that is simple arrogance, i.e., "If they knew as much as I did, they wouldn't patronize such places."

Regarding the prices charged for this....nothing new there. You're exchanging money for time and convenience. For some, that is the no brainer decision.

Why not take it to Magic Kingdom and have goofy do it! Same thing…….:) Then they can charge you the “special Disney price” of 4x normal and then pay $3 for a 12 oz water while you wait….

You can’t tell I just came back from there last month. Not, going back for a lonnnnng time. Almost "lost it" a few times with the "nice" people there.

Have a good time and I hope everyone gets better.

Try Jiffy-Lube. They put a brand new motor in my neighbors VW because they forgot to put the oil back in. They are all about the same, quick in, quick out.

Mikepa---I think you are missing the point here. Since you are paying for a service, you would think the people in the back, DOING the service, would "step up" and not make stupid errors. I can see some small things but stripping a drain plug, not installing a oil filter…Come on here.

Again it comes down to you get what you pay for. You pay $12 for an oil change you will get just that. My Lexus dealer changes $55 but I would NOT have to worry about some moron screwing up my filter or drain pug. I also get a washed car and a vacuumed car. I also get free food etc.

Again it is not “arrogance” as you call it. You do not get highly skilled people for min wage either.
