1000g propane tank floated out of the ground.

If tank rotated as it rose, does that mean the fill spout, shut off, and relief valves are now face down and "burried ? if so I would fix it sooner rather than later.

I think its under that box
That box looks like the access to the fill valve

Exactly. The valves are now at about a 45 degree angle, and according to the propane guy, I can burn it all the way to empty like it is. He said the only time a tilted tank becomes an issue is when you have liquid contacting the valves, which is not the case here. When it happened, my initial sense was, "I have to fix this right away!" But it turns out there are plenty of other more pressing issues around here!

I'd just leave it half buried (but straighten it up), then add some short (3') temporary lattice (just enough to hide the tank), pile a little more dirt around the sides (making a steep mound) and plant some sort of creeping evergreen that will grow over the mound and exposed part of the tank, then take down the lattice in a year or two when the evergreen has covered the tank.

Or - make a rustic raised flower bed- leave it half buried, and just stack some railroad ties up around it and fill the void with enough soil to cover the tank.

I was told by propane dealer, to install tank inline with house. He said " in case of tank explosion, the end caps blow out", if one end blew out, the tank would be a large rocket.

I'm going to bury mine when I get it. Being ugly is one reason. Taking up space is another. But the biggest reason is piece of mind. I don't want it as a possible target someday when the SHTF. Why wouldn't you bury it is my question.

.... Why wouldn't you bury it is my question.

As an engineer, I can tell you that a buried tank can not be inspected, repainted, or maintained in any way. This is three good reasons why I don't bury them.

The fourth is that an underground rated tank is much more expensive than an aboveground tank, because of the corrosion protection necessary.

Please don't tell us that you would bury an ordinary tank...

Build a 2 or 3-sided berm around it:
Above ground
Low maintenance
Hidden
Won't float out

I contacted the propane company and they will provide the tank and bury it. I'm assuming they know the difference between the two. They said they've never had one float. Not enough water in AZ. :)
