Fran, flood insurance is a government backed policy but any insurance agency should be able to secure it for you if you need it. They just get it from FEMA (or whoever does it) so it's the same price no matter which agency you get it through. You can go to the FEMA website and put your address in. FEMA Flood Map Service Center | Welcome! If you live in an X zone you aren't required to have flood insurance on your property. If you're in an AE, then you would be required. If you have a mortgage on your house and you live in a flood zone then they make you get a flood policy. So if you have a mortgage and no flood policy then there's no reason you should have to be required to get a policy for the tractor.

I believe the Deere has a safety feature that shuts off the MMM when backing up. That is the one feature I would find annoying if your PTO was turning off and on every time you backed up a little while mowing. I think there is a switch control to pull each time you back up to keep the PTO from shutting off but that seems kind of weird too. Some people know how to bypass the safety feature

I am really enjoying the tractor. It is my first piece of equipment and it has changed the way I look at my projects. I have removed about a dozen stumps that have just been sitting for 7 years because the stump grinding was too costly. The backhoe has seriously changed my life. I live in very very Rocky soil-actually very little soil even there. Planting a 5 ft tree in the past was an all day affair with plenty of Ibprofen afterwards. I literally can dig a bigger hole, backfill with decent soil and compost and have the tree planted in 30 minutes. Amazing stuff.

The things I would do differently: I probably would not have bought the ballast box. With the BH, I have never used the ballast box once. I should have taken that money and bout some skid forks. I wish that the FEL was a bit stronger too. But overall, very happy with my purchase.

I am frozen between the BX23s and the Jd1025r. The JD is a 2018 model. And they are offering it $500 less ($18,200) than the Kubota (18,700). Pro's of the JD:
Better Loader capacity (though about the same with kubota pin-on)
A couple of inches wider
Frame seems more substantial
Liquid cooled transmission (not fan)
Insurance about $17 a month cheaper (Life of the loan, it's about $1200 less than Kubota)
BH dedicated it's own seat. I have heard good and bad about this. Anyone have an opinion?

Didn't' seem as refined to me. 4x4 "rod" seemed kind of weak. Gas gauge.
Herky jerky BH and loader

Kubota Pros
Smoother engine.
Loader and BH smoother.
Layout of instruments seems better to me. ( I don't care about treadle pedal or side by side. Makes no difference to me)
The BH is at an angle, making it easier on and off trailers and over stuff
BH removable operation much better. Really smart
I can get 84 months 0% (only 60 with JD) Though this isn't make or break.
Looks cooler to me. (I have a zero turn JD so I have nothing against JD, The Kawasaki engine in the JD has been great

Can any of you speak to any of this? New BH seat? Does it keep you from reaching forward and moving the machine while still on the BH? SSQA on Kubota keep you from doing what you want? Is the BH on the JD any stronger than the Kubota? I know both will be great tractors. And that's the problem. Dealers both good. Been around for ever and right across the street from each other.

JD online - build your own - 24k+. Kubota around 21k. Is the Deere a better value? Goes against everything I've been reading. Oh, and The B series is just too expensive for me to swing (finance committee).

In that case have you looked at any used ones? It may make sense to try a cheaper tractor first if you don' know exactly what you want. That being said, does the Kubota for $1,800 more have a 3rd function valve? IMO if all else is equal then the money talks. The Deere is a fine machine no doubt.

Truthfully, the Kubota had such a better deal because the grapple and hydraulic third option were thrown in. I actually liked the JD a little better aesthetically, but the Kubota dealer gave 84 mos 0% if I put 20% down. I didn't lose any of the cash rebates and whatnot because of the 84 mos, like JD was going to do. Both are very good tractors. My loader could be a little stronger(it's not the newer pin on loader with more capacity). Truthfully, take the cost factor out of the equation for one second and look at your gut instinct. Both are such good tractors you really have to go with the minor differences that may sway you. For me, I liked how smooth the loader and backhoe operation was. I also really like that the BX has less plastic( esp the hood). We all know what 20 yrs in the sun can do to plastic.

As far as buying used, I looked at the economics of it and it just didn't make sense unless of course you are paying lump sum cash. Also, I really don't mind paying extra to have a machine that is newer and more reliable. I like the idea of fixing stuff myself, but really lack the time. The 0% financing almost makes it a no brainer for me

Here's the best grapple for either of those tractors, no matter the price! 200 pounds, 36" opening.

Custom valve kit is under $800 when purchased with a grapple.
