12 States to ban diesel vehicles

First, my apologies to Ultrarunner and any other TBN member from CA but they don't call it "The land of fruits and nuts for no reason". A place where much, but not all, of the governance is based on spend and then tax to backfill the profligate spend.

What I can't wrap my head around is why the tax payers haven't long ago said enough is enough and voted out the half wits. I can only conclude the people who vote are not the same people who pay taxes and out of self interest they keep voting for more free lunches.

That my friends is why businesses are fleeing CA and CA has seen a net year over year outflow of people from its borders since they are voting with their feet.
Gsganzer, I really hope CA gets their ship up-righted as I too have spent many wonderful work trips to various CA cities and the opportunity within the existing CA business and personnel base is great UNFORTUNATELY the profligate spending and then the taxing to backfill the hole seems to be ingrained in the current state and municipal administrations at so many levels that a Reagan Revolution may no longer be possible. Those with money walk leaving the remainder but the existing administrations do not adjust spend for the lower tax base, they just keep spending and printing IOUs and raising the per capita taxes. The only years, CA ran a "surplus" was when the Federal govt handed them almost a TRILLION dollars of COVID relief money.

People, justifiably, vote for their own self benefit and when the monied people leave the state the remaining people's voting power increases and they vote for candidates who promise more benefits. A vicious cycle.

I think I heard in ONE year (might have been 1867) the US laid 20,000 miles of railroad track.
In CA, they just recently wasted billions on a railroad to nowhere and never laid one foot of track.

Morons run that state. Period.

While I’d like to agree the politicians are the problem and the people of CA are great, one must stop and remember, those great people elected the moron politicians. So they must bear some of the responsibility..

How about this? The states who don't want diesels don't get diesels? So the motoring public driving those big 18 wheelers with diesel engines just don't take any freight going to those states. Let the 18 wheelers deliver it to a warehouse and somebody with an electric pickup can come get it, 500 pounds at a time!

I believe it’s fairly simple… voter and taxpayer are not linked…

I can’t speak for California or even the SF Bay Area but I spent plenty of late nights at city council meetings and it was for nothing…

Follow the money in programs and grants is telling and then add folks that have never had to make a payroll and/or toil to put a roof over their head or food on the table and chasm is wide.

The problem when using other peoples money is when the money dries up…

Firms continue to flee… some with very long histories here.

The mayor of my city has voiced support for a living minimum wage of $50.

The wage carve outs for fast food has has hit hard… when a hugely successful In and Out leaves or a new Walmart closes and 7/11 struggle for to theft and robbery… the future isn’t looking bright.

It’s already illegal to operate a brush cutter trimmer or blower here… the future ban of gas and diesel new vehicles is real… so was banning natural gas in new homes as well as solid fuel fireplaces/stoves.

Oregon, California and Washington often move in lockstep… the metro hubs pretty decide for all.

Exactly.
I say let them make a trial run for 1 year and see how it goes without any diesel powered trucks or equipment.
They’ll be starving and fighting in the streets.

I will admit that natural gas powered trucks are making inroads. Many trucks out west are LNG powered. It’s plentiful and affordable. I’m seeing plenty of UPS road tractors pulling twins on the PA Turnpike. And much of that LNG comes right from under our feet in Pennsylvania!

If Cummins or Detroit or whomever makes US diesel engines can convert them to LNG and offer similar performance, why not see what they can do.

Line em up and let the people choose!

You lose HP with CNG. At least when gassers have been converted. I haven't had any experience with a diesel on CNG.

I've had to pull my share of oil field workers up hills here in Arkansas because they didn't have enough giddy up to make it up on their own. The gassers on CNG would stall out pulling a 10,000lb load.

I would end up pulling up in front of them with my F550 diesel service truck, (17,000lbs) hook a chain to them and pull them to the top.

A couple times I was pulling a 10,000lb load myself.

Those times I had to put the transfer case down in low range.

That oil field company had all 2wd 3/4 ton trucks, cng, so they couldn't put their trucks down in low range.

All these people talking crap about CA but CA is actually subsidizing poor red and blue states federally. None of these proud states are turning that money down. lol. Keep owning the libs while they pay for your WIC and healthcare.

Most of the reason for California out migration is even more basic than the reasons you describe. Housing and insurance costs. People can sell their $1.5 M starter home in CA, then move to lots of other places and buy a better home for $500K. We see this all the time in the southwestern states.

Never going to happen. But if my government is stupid enough to ban the sale of fuel, which I can't see the arab's being okay with that, let it be known I'm going on a rampage. Just sayin LOL
