I would not call the voltage off a genny with a vibratingstyle mechanical regulator 'regulated 6v'
you will see large % excursions from 'regulated 6v'... if the gauge in question relied upon regulated 6v for accuracy.. you may see innaccuracy. if it did not care about the exact voltage.. like a sender and on / off lamp.. not a biggie... can't say that i see lots of 6v vintage electronic gauges in these machines....
in any case. it's a way, way moot point.
The voltage regulation comes from the DC-DC converter. I only mention this because many don't realize that DC-DC converters even exist, let a one that they are inexpensive and easy to use.
