Can anyone recommend a good power plug? I am on my second from Wally world and they don't last long outside. I have been using one to plug my sprayer up to my mower. I found some marine ones on the net, but am unsure if they work with a regular socket like came on my mower. I need to add a socket to my tractor, but that is another question. Thanks, JC

So....what type of device is this? I just use a simple 2 wire flat trailer plug.

Go to a marine supply store, they have good heavy duty ones often with weather resistant covers.

They used to be cigarette lighter plugs, but now they are just 12v plugs. I have an outlet on my lawn mower and really would just like to use it. I am using it to power a sprayer. I'll try to find one at a boat store. JC

You want something high current it sounds like to handle the sprayer. If there are any wrecking yards close by maybe scrounge something from there. I have a 12 volt jack on my 2006 Dodge Ram that is powered all of the time and is rated at 15 amps or so. I would think some of the wally world stuff is rated for high current for very long. As mentioned the marine ones with covers isn't a bad idea as well. When you tap you power are you going straight to your battery? Use large enough gauge wires so that you aren't heating up the wires and socket contacts also.

Search for ANDERSON connectors.
They have connectors that handle from 50 amps to 500 amps.
Extreemly well made rugged units.

Hope this helps.

ps; the HD ones are what tow trucks use for booster cables.

Check with a John Deere dealer. They used to have good heavy duty male plugs to fit a lighter type socket. They used to be cheap. For a female socket, go to an ATV dealer.

On my Cub I taped into my tail litghts with a 2 wire quick disconect to plug my sprayer into. Now I use the headlight switch to turn the sprayer on and off.

If there is a tractor trailer wrecking yard nearby, there are a lot of 12v plugs in trucks. The one I would look at is the Volvo or Freightliner (and maybe others) that they put in the storage compartments to power the driver's refrigerator. It is a reasonably heavy duty plug, and comes with a wires attached, and can be flush mounted or mounted underneath a dash.

Thanks, that site listed the Marinco plugs that I already found, but It told that they would work with other receptacles. That is the info I could not find before. JC

The trolling motor plugins you can get the male and female. I think they come in 2 different amp size with the largest up around 50 amps. You only need the smallest one. The sprayers don't need that high amps, only if you have to run the wire a long ways.

To power the 12 pump on my fuel trailer, I used a round, 4 prong plug for towing. I mounted one end into a hole that I drilled into the side of my tractor, sort of beside and below my gauges. It has a lid that flips down to keep out moisture. The other end is attached to the wires from my fuel pump. I just slide it into the fitting on my tractor and I have power. With four prongs, I just wired up the top two for hot and neutral. Cheap, simple and effective. Four years later, it still works perfectly.

Most all John Deere dealers as well as marine supply shops, carry power plugs, both male and female. Main thing is to get stainless steel ones. The cheap-o $5.00 ones will rust before your eyes.

You can get the ones with a screw on cover - I recommend it.

I don't know if this is the type of plug your looking for but I have used this type for years and they have lasted. It's a 12 volt accessory plug made by Casco. PN# 21825C Heavy duty. I just put one on my Mower.

I'm another big Anderson user and wont look back.

I got them hooked to my battery's in my vehicles to jump stuff or to run the stuff off it( inverter ect).

The battery died on my swisher trail mower so I made a connector and cables to go to the atv battery and start it off that it cant go any were with out atv so why did I need another battery.

Be sure to fuse the connector. A short could start a fire if you don't.

These flat connectors are very handy and are color coded (red and white or red and black). Keep the battery side connector's red lead (hot) as the covered pin, the ground bare, and each implement or "load" connector, keep the ground as the covered pin and the red bare. Usually, the flat connectors are sold "coupled" so you get the power side and the load side connectors in each pack. ALSO, if you can get these connectors from MOTOROLA (I used to install mobile radios), you can get 14 Ga. wires on them rather than 18 Ga (Wally World type ones). Here's a link to what you need for 12V wiring and the wire gauge required. Don't forget to fuse the circuit immediately after the battery, to avoid any problems with shorting the power to ground. Wally world also carries nice spade type fuse holders with spade connectors rated up to 30A.

The SB type connectors by Anderson are what you find on charger systems for battery powered forklifts (warehouse equipment). They are also good connectors, easy to hold while connecting/disconnecting, but are for a large wire size, such as #6AWG and down.

Hope this helps,
Coolnorth:)

I did this for my JD 425 mower and consider it one of my better upgrades. I bought the socket at West Marine and ran the leads right to the battery. That way they are always 'on'. WM or Boaters World can also supply you with a waterproof fuse holder (highly recommended).
