120 mile purchase.

There are no dealers on our island so it's a ferry ride to any tractor suppliers whatever happens. The dealer I went to was some distance away but gave me the best price for my Kubota. Before signing the deal, I got in writing confirmation that small warranty items would be dealt with on island by the dealer employing an on island mechanic, or that they would send their own. This excluded major items for which I'd have to deliver the machine at my expense.

I thought this was a reasonable compromise and bought the tractor on that basis. I only had one warranty item in the first year, a linkage problem on the joystick which I could fix myself and they had a part couriered to me within 48 hours.

That is a smoking deal on a 3040. Keep in mind when comparing prices that the 27HP and 32HP Montanas and Farmtrac are not in the same class of tractor as the 3040, the 3040 is a premium tractor. I too think you could make allot of trips for warranty work for 3K.

Think resale.

Do you think that the Kioti or Farmtrac will hold their value longer?

I am literally pulling my hair out over this.

Nope.

Also, have you checked to see what the Montana dealer would charge to pickup and deliver it for you. If it is not that much then the 120 miles is not a big thing. I know you will be getting a trailer, but sometimes it is the time it takes to take it back and forth that is the largest hassle. If they have no problem coming and fetching for not a bad fee then I would say $3000 in savings will pay for a lot of hauling. More than you would probably ever need.

Thats a good point. I will ask them.
It's between the Montana and ck30, and will decide by Monday.

I rented a kubota 3130 yesterday.Nice machine.

I did find out that my 1/2 ton pick-up didn't like towing the 3130 with loader and blade the 5 miles that I drove.

I dont think she will tow the 3040 with all those attachments 120 miles.

I will NEVER buy another 1/2 ton again.

Thanks for the replies.

This is pretty important...you may as well figure $1.50 minimum per loaded mile (about $180 one way). There could be a fuel surcharge as well.
If he has a flat rate (my dealer does...$40 last time I sent a tractor there. That was 3 years ago though), that might work.

Even you transporting the tractor is going to be expensive, especially if you need to buy a larger truck to do the job.

A 3040 can be hauled with a 1/2 ton pickup if it is equiped properly and the trailer is equiped properly. I know a frequent poster named Highbeam hauls a CK30 with a 1/2T and a 10K PJ trailer. I haul my 3040 with a 1/2T and a 7K PJ trailer and I am within all limits of my truck and trailer.

Do you think that tractor will be worth 3000 less in 3 years or 5000 less than the other tractors you are considering? 3000$ / 3$ a gallon = 1000 GALLONS x 15 miles per gallon = 15000 / 240 miles = 62.5 trips. BUT WHAT IS YOUR TIME WORTH? What if they dont have the part in stock =480 miles. Hope your handy.

My 790 came from southern VA. I bought it online (Machinefinder's.com) a few years back.
I was lucky enough that the salesman (nice guy!) was coming to PA for a Scout meet with some scouts. I paid $140 for a transport that should have cost about $450-$500.
My local dealer will service this tractor but I'm sure I wouldn't get the perks that someone who bought a Deere at his dealership would get (and he does do the perks...my first tractor was purchased there).
Fortunately, a 790 Deere is a very simple machine to work on. The parts aren't too expensive, considering they're green.
So, if Swampvol has done his homework (to determine if Montana is a viable and dependable brand) and is capable and willing to do some wrench turning, maybe that 120 mile trip is OK. I'd be leery..but that's me.
Personally, I think I did pretty good...but I do have two Deere dealers within a 30 mile radius.
