Most things from the dealer will be filters and such. You can get them on line - or phone the dealer and they can drop ship to you. Cheaper than a 2 hour drive each way! I wouldn't let the distance bother.


By the way, what 1/2 ton do you have? I used to have a 2000 Chev with the 5.3, automatic and 3:73 gears. It would haul my L3410HST with FEL, filled R4's and Woods BB600 cutter on a 2400# trailer without much issue. That's about 8500# total load.

The diesel is better, but still the 1/2 did tow it over 7,500 miles total....250 miles at a crack.

It's a '04 Ram 4x4 off road (sits high) with a 6 foot box, and 3.92. The motor has no problem pulling, it just moves the rear around more than I like. I don't think it's so much that its a 1/2 ton as much as it's too tall in the back. It will pull the 120 miles.

I've been researching the Montana 3040, and though it's only been around a few years, I haven't found anything negative about it. And as Dallas Lilly said, it is a better platform than the farmtrac 320dtc. Its equal to the 300, which my local dealer wants $20,500 with brush hog, trailer and fel.

Implements for the Montana are there, they even make a ditchwitch that would definitely come in handy being that I am a electrical contractor.
I said I was going to make my mind up by Monday...didn't say which one though.

I haves that same problem but the best deal for me will save 2.2K but 160 mile drive. I hate not buying in my home town but 2K is 2K.

i went 240 miles one way to buy my used TC33... but by all rights i saved nearly 3 grand in doing so.

would i buy a nother used tractor sight unseen? no

I would not be concerned with a 120 mile purchase. My biggest concern would be the long term implications of Montanna and whether or not how long they stay in business. They are somewhat a new player in the market and in effect do not build any of their tractors. They only market their tractors. Nothing inherrently wrong with that. Deere and NH imports and markets some tractors also including manufacturing some. If I felt that 20 years from now Montanna would still be in business then I woud buy it and not have any reservations at all. They seem to have a good marketing plan and make setting up dealerships with very little capital possible.

Think resale.

Most small farmers/hobbyists will never wear out a tractor.

If they buy the right tractor for their purpose there is no reason to sell.

OTOH I know men who chose their wives that way, based on how much aanticipated trade in value they will have xx years down the road.

All of those prices are high. I bought my ck30hst with fel, Modern galvanized 5' cutter ($950), and heavier Kioti box blade ($550)for $17873. Trailers are not that expensive especially the ones most dealers try to put in a package.

I was quoted $15500 on my choice of the Montana and Farmtrac 30hp 4x4 tractors with fels. I went with the Kioti for hst and the fact it has more features.

I already talked to the Montana dealer about it and he told me that any of my local dealers can service it,

But have you talked to your local dealers about this? If you show up with your new Montana to have the oil changed do you think you will get qucik service? You are not going to be their priority.
