He warned people a number of times that if they didn't stop arguing, then he would stop posting his results. I would expect that since the arguing continued and the thread was closed, he has kept his word.

Really unfortunate that many people end up losing because of the actions of a few. I was also very interested in hearing the results of the testing and any recommendations that he was able to make on how to get the best out of my 120v machine. As well, he was putting a lot of time and effort into the testing which should not have to go to waste.

If my machine shutdown after one inch of weld I'da gave it up too. Need some fellas better equipped, Miller, for example? :D That Century shield was using wasn't shutting down (welder not WeldOR).

Maybe an Everlast 140E can finish up.

Did this quick today at work

3/8 with 45* bevel

Tacked and welded two passes then ground the root and welded one pass to bring it flush

Root bent, can see crack developing in area of start, rest of weld looks good

No cracks at all in welded area but can see base metal actually starting to rip approx 1/4" above weld

Thanks for doing the test, firemanmike.
I just got tired if all the bickering and nonsense on here so I just decided to stay late at the shop and bang a coupon out quick because I don't have a 110 mig at home. The machine I used was a millermatic 140 with .030 wire and c25 gas

Thanks again Fireman. Experienced welders have been "imagining" the limits of 120v MIGs for so long, it's time! The opposition to this "project" has been either amazing, humorous, or pitiful.

Everybody should know that a 120v MIG pushin' it at 3/8" but also they should know it "can do it" with weld prep and knowhow, in a pinch. It's pretty much the same methods that any experienced welder knows when welding thick stuff just that nobody will show 120v MIG owners how to do it. It depends on the weldment size, and the application too.

The notion that 120v MIG can only weld 12ga, is out the window. Or ought to be, I guess we'll see how long that takes!
