1235 Massey

Jeff -
I haven't bought a tractor yet, not quite yet ready to decide between Kubota, JD & Massey. Side by side I definitely prefer the MF1225 over the NH TC21D, but it's more money too. I really like the Kubota B7500 hsd, but it lacks the position control on the 3ph, but otherwise it's a real nice setup. The JD is nice too, although the Yanmar diesel seems a little rougher/louder, and the MF is the smoothest runner of all to me. I think Knights has 1 1225, a 1233 (gst, but same frame size as your 1235) and 2 1250's (which are very nice).
Good luck with your trip to Knights, although you may want to call ahead for an appointment as I found them very busy on the Saturday I was there (they are a small family operation).
So my next trip there will probably be have to be on a day off work.
Regards,
John

John,

After visiting a number of dealers over the weekend, I've narrowed my choices down to two: Kubota B2910 and Agco ST30. Both are very similar (power and weight); but the Kubota seems to have a lot of little "extra's" that could make an overall difference (i.e.-telescoping lift arms, full suspension seat with arm rests, tilt/telescoping padded steering wheel, better and more logical controls locations, toolbox, etc.)

I visited a few Massey dealers and the price was $2500 - $4000 more than a similarly equipped Kubota. Strange how the Agco dealer came in right at the same price as the Kubota (when the Massey 1235 and Agco ST30 are identical tractors).

Anyway, if you are considering the Massey 1225, I'd highly recommend that you check out its twin - Agco ST25 (it may save you some $$$). I'd also recommend that you check out the Kubota B2410 and B7500. The quality and comfort of the Kubota's really surprised me. They are well built machines with decent price tags. Good Luck.

John....

Did you buy your new compact yet? If so, what did you end up with. I'm trying to sell a few of my other tractors prior to purchasing a new compact. I'm leaning towards the Kubota B2910, but haven't ruled out the Agco ST30, yet.

I have owned my Massey 1235 with cab sin ce 1999. I like the tractor for its ease of controls and overall performance. The hydrostat is very responsive and being 6' in height I find no problem with control access. The 30HP Iseki E3CD diesel is a very responsive. I recently had to take my engine out to overhaul as the air filter somehow got a hole in it and sucked in debris. It likely needs a re-ting job as the oil consumption jumped. I have n ot had to add oil between changes prior to this event in the 13 years of use. Other than that issue I would recommend the 1235 for general purpose use. I have a 72" rear mount 2 stage blower and front loader. These two balance out very well for heavy snow removal.
I highly recommend this unit. I use a bottom mount deck and my concern for mowing was that the front axle was rugged to withstand rough terrain when mowing without beating up the steering. I purchased the 1235 based on two criteria: Low cent of gravity and rugged front axle. Massey fit both of those easily. Never had any problems with this tractor. A real workhorse.
